Severe thunderstorm chances return to the area late this afternoon and evening. A fast-moving arc of storms may produce damaging wind gusts, with isolated gusts up to 70 mph possible. Stay weather aware and be sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings.

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below expected.

* WHERE...Portions of west central Iowa and east central and
northeast Nebraska.

* WHEN...From midnight tonight to 10 AM CST Friday.

* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero
could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is
exposed to these temperatures.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.

To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to
drip slowly.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly.

HAZARDS...An area of moderate snow accompanied by winds of up to 45
MPH which can rapidly reduce visibility to less than a quarter of a
mile.

LOCATION AND MOVEMENT...At 1016 AM CST, an area of moderate snow was
5 miles northwest of Thurston, or 11 miles east of Wayne moving
southeast at 35 MPH.

THIS AREA OF HEAVY SNOW WILL BE NEAR...
Pender and Thurston around 1020 AM CST.
Bancroft around 1040 AM CST.
Lyons around 1055 AM CST.
Oakland around 1100 AM CST.
