Volunteer firefighters responded today to the Island Shelter located on the south side of Blossom Road in Ellison Park for the report of a woman who was stuck in the mud down along the creek's shore line while attempting to retrieve her dog.
Penfield volunteer firefighters found a victim over the side of the creek with her leg stuck in the mud at the water's edge unable to climb back out. A rope was lowered down for the victim while a ladder was being secured in place. Volunteers then descended down the ladder and were able to free the victim's foot from the suction of the mud. The uninjured victim climbed back up the ladder while the volunteer firefighters retrieved the dog. A Penfield Webster EMS ambulance was on location but the victim refused treatment and signed off. The victim and the dog were reunited.

Yesterday, your Penfield Volunteer Firefighters we honored to participate in the Penfield Little League opening day parade and ceremony! This is an annual tradition that we look forward to every year. We hope all participants have a fun and safe season. Play Ball!

Last night, your Penfield Volunteer Firefighters were proud to es**rt the Class AA Boys Basketball State Champion Penfield Patriots back home to the high school!! Congratulations to the team and their families!!

Last night, your Penfield Volunteer Firefighters responded for a reported house on fire. The first arriving Assistant Chief found fire from the mobile home. The fire was under control in about 15 minutes. There were no reported injuries. We would like to thank brightonfiredept and eastrochesterfd for their assistance on scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Monroe County Fire Bureau.

Last week girls cheer, this week boys basketball! We were honored to es**rt both back to town after winning sectionals! Congratulations to both teams and good luck at states!!

Hopefully everyone remembered to change their clocks this morning as we enter daylight savings time. Now is also a good time to check your smoke and CO alarms. If they have a sealed 10 year battery, simply press the button on the alarms to test them. If your alarms have removable batteries, we recommend you change the batteries, even if the detector still works.

This week for drill, your Penfield Volunteer Firefighters trained on ice water rescue. Fortunately we do not get many calls for ice water rescues, however, we are ready if we do. This is just one more way we are prepared for any emergency! We would also like to thank Shadow Lake Golf & Racquet Club for allowing us to use their pond for our training.

With recent snowfall and continuing cold temperatures, we would like to take a moment and ask our neighbors to adopt a fire hydrant in your neighborhood, if you are physically able. Having easy access to a fire hydrant saves us valuable time at a fire! Please keep fire hydrants clear for at least 3 feet in all directions and a clear path to the street. We thank you for your assistance!

This afternoon, your Penfield Volunteer Firefighters responded for a truck on fire close to the house. The first arriving Assistant Chief found a vehicle on fire with the fire spreading to the house. The fire was quickly extinguished keeping damage to the structure minimal. There were no injuries and the fire is under investigation by the Monroe County Fire Bureau. Thanks to Fairport Fire Department for assisting us on scene.

We would also like to thank the neighbor who came out and offered our members coffee after we extinguished the fire! The gesture was much appreciated!
