Have you noticed some books getting switched to different areas of the library lately? Our industrious librarians have been hard at work recently refreshing areas of PPL's collection, particularly adult nonfiction.

To start, all of our test prep books, which include practice exams and study guides for things like the SATs have been moved closer to the teen area, at the end of the DVDs, to make them more accessible to young adult students. The test prep collection still includes guides for exams relevant to adults, such as Monroe County civil service tests, so be sure to check it out if you have an exam coming up.

Next, our adult graphic novel collection has been moved to the wall next to the start of nonfiction. It has more wiggle room here and has been updated to include classic comics that were formerly included in the arts section of regular nonfiction. Now they can all be together and easier to find!

Lastly, we'd like to introduce you to a new collection that is making itself at home next to the adult graphic novels: Quick Bites. The quick bites collection features a series of slim books that provide an overview on an eclectic array of topics, such as the U.S. Congress, innovation, weather, and intellectual property to name a few. These are a great way to begin exploring a topic out of interest, given their snapshot style, and provide an excellent springboard for research.

If you can't find something you're looking for, please stop by our Information Desk to check in with one of our librarians - we love getting recommendations from patrons of items they'd like to see in our collection!

Over the summer, our youngest patrons wrote some of their favorite reads on colored pieces of paper to create this fun wall art in our Braman Room. Summer Reading may be officially over, but you can Unearth a Story all year long at PPL!🦕

We've got a lot of neat programs happening at PPL this September for adults...all of which are free to attend!

Kicking us off on September 1 at 6:30 PM is Allergy Awareness: Epi Near You Training, where you'll learn what to do to save your own life or that of a loved one in the event of an anaphylaxis emergency.

We've also got a new creative writing workshop series using photographs as prompts starting on September 3, figuring out how to eat healthy on a budget on September 16 with Cornell Cooperative Extension (virtual, so you can attend from the comfort of home), and on September 23, we'll explore strategies with Alli O'Malley that empower individuals and communities to restore hope and healing to families in crisis, creating a safer tomorrow.

If you attend An American Tradition on September 26, you'll be treated to the Dust Bowl Bunnies, five local musicians, who will “tell” of labor rights, civil rights, migrant struggles, the World Wars, Vietnam, nature’s struggle, and hope. In the next installment of Penfield 250 with the Local History Room - Penfield NY on September 28, our intrepid local historians will take us on a deep dive into what happened to Penfield during the Civil War.

You can find out more and sign up for these programs and many more for all ages here:
