Give them time.
If you have a young athlete who struggles with their emotions out on the field... unable to quite handle the pressure of the game, the disappointment of loss or the vulnerability of making a mistake...
Give them time.
Some kids just need you to invest in them a little more.
If your athlete is coming off a tough game... where you know that they didn't perform their best or things didn't go their way...
Give them time.
Let the car ride be a safe space for them to just vent or have a little silence.
If you have an athlete who is speaking up that they feel "off" ... if they're feeling down on themselves, struggling with the balance of it all or simply starting to feel burnt out...
Give them time.
And give them yours so they have someone who listens.
If your athlete doesn't seem to develop their skills as quickly as the kids around them ... if they're not reaching their goals or making the team yet... but still have a passion for the game...
Give them time.
Their timeline doesn't have to look like anyone else's.
Our kids don't always need another lesson.
Or another motivational speech.
Sometimes?
They just need some time.
Some time to learn.
Some time to feel.
To struggle. To rest. To think.
And also?
A little reminder that we're right there beside them as they do.
Give them time.
