A recent WHYY story takes a closer look at new ALS research happening at Temple University (), where researchers are working on AI-powered “digital twins” for people living with ALS.

The idea is to create virtual models that could help doctors better understand how ALS may progress for each person, test possible treatment paths, and give families more specific information as they make decisions about care.

That kind of information matters because ALS brings so much uncertainty.

In the article, Hope Loves Company Founder Jodi O'Donnell-Ames () shares the kinds of questions she hears from families every day:

“I’m talking to people every day who are scared, who are trying to figure out more information, trying to figure out, ‘Should I plan this trip, even though I have two little kids, this summer? Do you think my husband’s going to be here next summer?’ These are big questions.”

Anyone who loves or has loved someone with ALS knows how heavy those questions can be.

At Hope Loves Company, we see how ALS affects the whole family, including the children and teens who love someone with ALS or who have lost a loved one. Families need medical information they can trust. They also need support, connection, and places where children can talk about what they are carrying.

Thank you to WHYY () for sharing this story and for including the family perspective alongside the research.

Today, on Lou Gehrig Day, we honor the legacy of a man whose courage continues to move generations.

Lou Gehrig’s story is forever woven into the ALS community because his strength, humility, and love for the people around him still remind us what it means to face the unimaginable with grace.

At Hope Loves Company, we also hold close the children and families who live with ALS every day. The sons and daughters. The young caregivers. The grandchildren. The children who have said goodbye to someone they love, and the families still navigating the journey together.

They deserve to know they are not alone.

As Major League Baseball shines a light on ALS today, we are grateful for every moment that helps more families feel seen, supported, and surrounded by hope.

On Lou Gehrig Day, we remember. We honor. And we continue showing up for the children who love or have lost someone with ALS.

For the first time ever, Hope Loves Company is honored to be included in Lou Gehrig Day celebrations. ⚾💙

On June 2, thanks to the support of donors, community members and the ALS Hope Foundation () families living with ALS will receive free tickets to LG4 Day games in Philadelphia, Boston, and Seattle — a meaningful effort to honor Lou Gehrig, raise ALS awareness, and create moments of connection, joy, and support for families across the country.

At HLC, we know that ALS affects the entire family, including children and young adults who love someone with ALS or who have lost a loved one. That is why we are so grateful to be part of this special day and to stand alongside partners who are helping families feel seen, supported, and surrounded by community.

A heartfelt thank you to Larry Kaplan for bringing us in and everyone who has worked so hard to make this possible. We are excited to be part of this growing movement and look forward to seeing LG4 Day reach even more cities in the years ahead.

Because nothing changes unless we change it. 💙

At Camp HLC, support extends beyond the campers. 💙

While children and teens spend the weekend building friendships, trying new activities, and connecting with peers who understand life alongside ALS, parents and caregivers are also given space to breathe, reflect, and feel supported.

Through intentional parent programming led by our compassionate Parent Coordinator, families have opportunities to connect through group shares, self-care activities, conversations, and moments of rest with others who truly understand the journey. For many parents, it is one of the few places where they do not have to explain what ALS has brought into their lives.

We are so grateful to Nyah Beauty for generously donating thoughtful self-care gifts for the parents attending our Northeast Camp HLC weekend. Their kindness helped remind caregivers that they are seen, valued, and deserving of care too.

At Hope Loves Company, we believe caring for children also means caring for the families who walk beside them every day. Thank you to every supporter who helps make these moments of connection, hope, and community possible.

On May 7th, Hope Loves Company was honored to stand alongside the ALS community at the I AM ALS () Flag Day event in Washington, D.C.

More than 6,500 blue flags lined the National Mall, each one representing a person living with ALS or someone who has lost their life to this disease. Together, they created a powerful reminder that behind every diagnosis is a family, a story, and a community forever changed.

Our founder, Jodi O'Donnell-Ames, shared her personal journey of advocacy, hope, and resilience, reflecting on how her family’s experience with ALS ultimately led to the creation of Hope Loves Company. She also spoke about the importance of ensuring children who love someone with ALS are seen, supported, and never feel alone in their experience.

We’re also grateful to HLC Board Member Laura Higday for representing HLC and continuing to advocate for families navigating ALS.

Events like Flag Day remind us that advocacy matters. Community matters. And sharing our stories can create real change.

To every family represented by a blue flag: we see you, we honor you, and we continue this work for you. 💙

When ALS enters a family’s life, it changes everything—including the lives of children who love or lose someone with ALS. On the latest episode of the Wondercast podcast from Wonders & Worries, Hope Loves Company founder Jodi O'Donnell-Ames shares her personal story, the founding of HLC, and why children and families navigating ALS need community, compassion, and hope.

In the conversation, Jodi reminds us that support does not always have to be complicated. Sometimes it looks like answering the phone, dropping off a meal, mowing a lawn, listening without judgment, or helping a child feel safe enough to share what they are carrying.

Through free programs like Camp HLC, Hugs of Hope care packages, Beyond the Bunk Hangouts, and parent support, HLC continues to walk alongside families so children know they are not alone.
