***THE ROAD IS NOW OPEN***

ATTENTION!!
The North Penobscot Road (199) is currently closed about a mile from the town office.
There is a pressurized vessel on the side of the road that may rupture.
The road will be closed for at least the next 45 minutes, so please seek an alternate route.

We got the official word that the road is back open. Burn permits are turned back on for online only. Please read all rules that apply to your permit. Reminder: Low burn days are all day burns. Moderate days are 5pm to midnight. High days will have no permits issued by the state.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the town of Searsmont and surrounding towns with their loss and injuries that occurred the Robbin's Lumber Mill.

Yesterday's woods fire call by the numbers: 2.37 acres, 17 apparatuses, 51 personnel on scene or on standby, 2350 feet hose used, 10,000-12,000 gals of water. Also with fire lost stop at 21 feet from one of 3 houses or buildings. Time on scene 3 hrs and 1.5 hrs of clean-up. Thanks again to all that were there to help. -301

Reminder that permits are still turned off during the road closure. However, there was a glitch the other day in the system that allowed 2 permits to be released. Today's fire was was a result of one of those permits. The fire burned underground unnoticed until it resurfaced. This was a good example of why we have the permits shut down due to some mutual aid having to travel 30-40 minutes to get to us to help. Penobscot Fire Department would like to thank Castine, Orland, Bucksport, Blue Hill, Sedgwick, Brooklin, Brooksville, Deer Isle ,Stonington for coming or standing by at stations and Maine Forest Service who travelled all the way from Gouldsboro 301

Public service announcement: During the road closure of mill creek, there will be no burn permits issued in person or online. Please get your burns done before then or you may do them after the closure.
