Construction activities are scheduled to begin in February 2021 on the $4.3 million project to replace the existing bridge culvert on North Ninth Avenue (State Road 289) over Carpenter’s Creek. In addition, crews will resurface the roadway between Royce Street and Bayou Boulevard, as well as a portion of Carpenter’s Creek Drive. Traffic Impacts and Construction Phasing
During construction, Ninth
Avenue traffic approaching Carpenter’s Creek will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Work will be performed in the following three phases:
• Phase one: One lane in each direction will be maintained on the outside of the Carpenter’s Creek Bridge to construct temporary retaining walls along the centerline of the existing roadway.
• Phase two: One lane in each direction will be maintained on the eastern side (northbound lanes) of the bridge to construct the southbound segment.
• Phase three: One lane in each direction will be maintained on the western side (southbound lanes) of the bridge to construct the northbound portion. Drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists will also experience traffic shifts and temporary detours. In addition, lane widths will be reduced to 10 feet and the speed limit reduced to 30 mph.
