Early voting is underway. If you are a registered NPA (No Party Affiliated) you can vote in the city mayoral race. NPAs make up 19% of Escambia County voters. That number is not one that should be ignored. Please find a polling place and go vote. Also, share this post so other people who are registered NPA will know they can make a difference.

🗳️ EARLY VOTING UPDATE: Escambia County
Two days in, and the numbers tell an interesting story. 2,476 voters hit the polls early—up from 2,143 four years ago. But vote-by-mail ballots are lagging: 10,374 so far vs. 12,452 in 2022's comparable primary.

Overall turnout is down 1,345 votes compared to the same point in 2022.

The breakdown by party? Republicans lead with 49.21% of all votes cast, and they make up nearly two-thirds of early voters. Democrats sit at 37.74%, with NPA voters at 11.32%.

Early voting runs through Saturday, Aug. 15, at 10 locations across the county, 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m. daily. Any registered Escambia voter can cast a ballot at any location.

Highly disturbing, scary and unacceptable. As your council member I will sponsor an ordinance that requires council oversight of Police Department use of Flock surveillance cameras and other license plate readers.

Flock’s array of license-plate cameras was built to fight crime. But at least 50 law enforcement officers were charged with or accused of misusing it and other systems.

Pensacola Climate Recommendations a Blueprint for Addressing Climate Change published 2018 by the city climate task force and presented to the city council. Do you know the city had a mitigation and adaptation task force? Is the city of Pensacola following recommendations of the task force by creating more density along coastal areas of Pensacola? Are we doing enough to improve ADA compliance with new development that creates more density? You decide.
Florida cities have placed moratoriums on developing density without considering the impact on traffic, flooding, and existing neighborhoods. Recently the city of Fairhope and Daphne placed temporary moratoriums on new high rise apartments, and condos.
Here is a link to the City Council meeting where the history and introduction of the task force members, along with their report, was presented to the city council. The meeting begins at time stamp 12:20. **Some amazing facts and data points are made by Mr. Larry Chamblin at 37:50. In the comments is the link to the full report and an example of new density. How is it, or isn’t it, completely beneficial, and does it promote access for everyone- universally designed?

More pictures of Bayview Senior Center. Going to file an ADA complaint with the City Building/Inspector. I took a friend to Earth Day and she is elderly, has multiple physical disabilities, including tremors. She has a handicap parking permit. She was unable to park at the Senior Center because her of the severe slope. I found one empty spot at a Bayview Community Center and stood in it waiting for her to get her car turned around so she could park in a safe location.

Please help me understand?
This is Bayview Senior Center at Bayview Park. I took an elderly friend to Earth Day, she has multiple physical disabilities, including tremors. She has a handicap parking permit. She was unable to park at the Senior Center because of the severe slope of the parking and roadway. While designed with the required 44” wide access aisle, the access is at the back of a row of parking spots rather than the front, which is specifically required so people using wheelchairs and walkers don’t have to navigate behind cars where they are not visible to other drivers. There is no curb cut, which means people who park here have to roll or walk into oncoming traffic & up the roadway on a hill. The signage doesn’t comply with the Florida statutory requirements. Ultimately, I found one empty spot at a Bayview Community Center & stood in it so she could park in a safe location.
I have been complaining since 2007 about the handicap parking being out of compliance with the requirements of the ADA and the Florida Accessibility Code, Chapter 11. I spoke at the Park and Rec meeting today about this problem. The city has an ADA coordinator who is in charge of the building inspectors office. He is an engineer. I just don’t understand why this was not corrected when millions were spent on Bayview Community Center.

Cat adoption event at PetSuperMarket on 9th Ave. Almost all of these cats here are living with fosters who took them in when they were very young. I have been involved with TNR since around 2015. It is really a crisis now. I have never seen so many unwanted cats. The crisis seems to have gotten worse since AC adopted a No Kill policy. Which is great if you have all of the other policies that go with it, such as the ordinances in Jacksonville, Florida that requires mandatory spay and neuter, regulations and enforcement of feeding community cats (there is one in Escambia County), funding low cost spay neuter. If I am elected to city council this issue of animal over population will be a top priority.
