🎧✈️ Air Traffic Controllers: Keeping Naval Aviation Moving Safely

Navy Air Traffic Controllers (ACs) play a critical role in the effective use of naval airpower—safely directing aircraft from naval air stations and the flight decks of aircraft carriers around the world.

ACs are responsible for controlling air traffic using radar, radio communications, and navigation systems; issuing flight instructions to pilots; and managing aircraft and vehicle movement on runways, taxiways, and carrier decks. It’s a high-stakes job that demands precision, focus, and teamwork.

That responsibility begins in the NETC training pipeline at Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC), Pensacola, where Sailors attend Air Traffic Controller “A” School. There, they learn the fundamentals of air traffic control through classroom instruction and simulators before continuing advanced, on-the-job training at fleet airfields and aboard aircraft carriers.

From shore-based towers to the flight deck at sea, NETC training prepares Air Traffic Controllers to keep Navy and Marine Corps aviation operating safely and efficiently—every day, in every environment.

📢 Know an AC or curious how naval aviation stays safe and on time? Share this to spotlight the Sailors behind the scope.
