During the recent hurricane, more than 900 first responders answered the call for our community. The one-cent Local Option Sales Tax helps fund the stations, vehicles and equipment our deputies, officers and firefighters rely on so they can be there when we need them most.

Most of the penny’s work is the kind you might not ever notice because it's hidden from view. But it's there when we need it.

In its fourth round alone, the penny has funded more than 125 drainage and stormwater projects that are finished or underway across Escambia County since 2018.

And when storms do hit, the fire trucks and ambulances that respond are penny-funded too.

The one-cent local option sales tax isn't a new tax. Local voters first approved it in 1992 and have voted to renew it – at the same 1% rate – three times since.

Voting for renewal keeps the same penny at work in Escambia County. And while up to 28% is paid by visitors, ALL of the revenue stays here to fund roads, sidewalks, drainage improvements, parks, public safety facilities and other projects across the county.
