This week marked the start of a new semester of the Waterfront Workforce Program at Bishop State Community College. These men will spend the next seven weeks gaining valuable skills, hands-on training, and industry-recognized certifications that can open doors to real employment opportunities in a high-demand field.

On a day when the summer heat and rain were impossible to ignore, we celebrated a new space designed to help our guests do just that: find comfort, shelter, and relief from the elements. This morning, we gathered to cut the ribbon for our new Waterfront Patio.

Thanks to a generous grant from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, an old bike shed was transformed into a welcoming pavilion complete with picnic tables, fans, heaters, and charging stations. This new space will provide comfort and dignity to both day service and overnight guests for years to come.

You recently learned how Christopher came to Waterfront needing physical healing, but he also found something even greater, a relationship with Christ.

Shortly after he arrived at the Mission he was baptized. He said he felt a tremendous weight lifted from his shoulders when he came up from the water.

Two years before arriving at Waterfront, Christopher lost his older brother to leukemia. Today, he believes God was guiding him all along and finds comfort knowing his brother would be proud of the path he's on.

Now, Christopher strives to be "a light for God" and encourages others not to give up.

"Someone like me went from being in a wheelchair to being able to walk again. If I can do it, anyone can."

After moving to Pensacola late last year, Christopher struggled to find stable employment during the holiday season. When his living situation fell apart, he found himself homeless and couch surfing. Then everything changed in an instant.

A motorcycle accident left him with a serious leg injury requiring multiple surgeries. Doctors told him he wouldn't be able to walk for two months. With no home and nowhere to recover, Christopher was discharged to Waterfront's Arukah Respite Center. Through Arukah, Christopher found more than a place to rest. He found the support he needed to heal.

Day by day, he worked to regain his strength, learning to walk again, while searching for employment. He even attended a job interview using a walker, unsure whether anyone would hire him. However, because the onboarding process took about a month, Christopher had just enough time to regain his strength before his first day of work.

Today, Christopher is fully recovered and, after transitioning to our Work Training Program, he is working a new job he loves as a security guard at HCA West Florida Hospital. He's now working toward moving out and into a place of his own.

Imagine being discharged from the hospital after an injury or surgery and having nowhere to go. You need to rest, you need to recover, but you aren’t sure where that can happen.

This is exactly the purpose of Waterfront’s Arukah Respite Dorm. We partner with local area hospitals and provide a place on our Mission campuses for homeless individuals to heal after they’re discharged. We have 10 respite beds for men and 7 for women in Pensacola, and 10 for men in Mobile.

Our kitchen team is planning a special cookout on July 3rd for the guests we serve, and we need your help to make it special! 🇺🇸🍔🌭

With the holiday weekend and summer heat, we expect to serve a large number of people at both our Pensacola and Mobile Missions. We are currently seeking donations of hamburger meat, hot dogs, buns, and chips.

If you've been to our Pensacola Mission over the last year and a half, chances are you've met Laura. Her friendly nature and welcoming presence have made her a familiar face here.

Laura came to Waterfront after falling behind on rent and running out of money. What she didn't expect was that her time here would become much more than a place to stay; it would become a season of growth and transformation.

She often compares her experience at Waterfront to Jonah and the whale. Like Jonah, she found herself in a difficult place she never expected to be. There was uncertainty at first, but over time, she began to see that God was using this season to teach her, strengthen her faith, and give her a new perspective. She became more active physically and spiritually, began attending church regularly, and found joy in praising God through song.

Today, we're excited to celebrate a major milestone in her journey. She recently received the keys to her very own home! 🏡🔑

Her season of hardship has become a testimony of God's faithfulness, and she's so eager to share what Christ has done in her life. Join us in congratulating Laura and praying for her as she begins this exciting new chapter! 🙏

Meet David. At 14 years old, he was saved while attending church camp. But when he returned home and learned his father had been sentenced to life in prison, he became angry with God and walked away from his faith.

For the next 14 years, David struggled with addiction, depression, repeated arrests, and homelessness. Feeling hopeless and searching for a fresh start, he used his last dollars to purchase a bus ticket to Pensacola.

When he arrived, David found Waterfront Mission through a Google search. What he discovered was more than food—he was also offered ten free nights of shelter. During his first few days of stay, David realized he wanted help obtaining his GED, driver's license, and stable employment. Encouraged by one of our chaplains, he enrolled in the Work Training Program, where he found the structure and support he needed.

A few weeks ago, David rededicated his life to Christ after conversations with a fellow program participant and support staff member, Caleb. Since then, he has noticed a significant change in himself. Where he once responded to life's challenges with anger, he now turns to God for guidance through prayer and Scripture. His faith is teaching him patience, compassion, and a new way forward.

David can now see God's hand at work throughout his life. He shared, "My whole life, I felt like something was missing. I realize now it was God."

We're encouraged by his commitment to change and the way he is allowing God to lead him!🙏

For many of the men and women who come through our doors, spiritual rest begins with simply being welcomed, prayed for, and reminded that they are not alone. 💙

Guests have access to daily chapel services, prayer, encouragement from chaplains, biblical guidance, and spiritual support throughout their time at the Mission. In seasons filled with uncertainty, hardship, or brokenness, these moments can bring peace, hope, and renewed purpose.

While the Mission provides physical rest through shelter, meals, and care, we also believe in helping people find the hope and healing that comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ.
