This week's crossover is a tasty one. 🍸🍦

Warren from O'Riley's Irish Pub Downtown showed Bri how to whip up an espresso martini, then Bri brought Warren over to Bubba's Sweet Spot for a lesson on the cappuccino crunch milkshake.

More downtown collabs coming your way soon.

See you on Palafox!

The City of Pensacola has earned the second of three approvals needed from the Triumph Gulf Coast Board of Directors to finalize a $76 million grant that establishes shipbuilder Birdon America Inc.’s Southeastern headquarters and a Tier 2 advanced ship manufacturing facility in Pensacola.

Today, June 22, Triumph's Board approved the term sheet for a grant that would transform the Port of Pensacola and fuel the creation of 2,000 jobs — the largest job creation project in our city’s history.

The term sheet outlines the components of the grant agreement. When fully approved, this investment will help the city build a 400,000-square-foot shipbuilding facility at the Port of Pensacola, strengthening our local economy and directly supporting our military through shipbuilding and the production of critical modules for ships and submarines.

The project would also be one of the largest grants approved by Triumph Gulf Coast, the nonprofit corporation created to manage funds recovered for economic damages to the state from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

“I am grateful to our team at the city who worked tirelessly to get us to this point," Mayor D.C. Reeves said. "Today, we are one step closer to bringing this transformational project to life at our Port. We’re focused on building Pensacola’s future, and Triumph’s investment helps us do just that.”

• 2,000 jobs
• 1,437 at an average of $68,000 a year
• 563 at an average of $112,000 a year

Next Steps: The third and final step is the approval of the grant agreement. Once constructed, the city will retain ownership of the facilities as public infrastructure and enter into a long-term ground lease with Birdon America Inc. for its use.

The total project cost is $275 million, with additional funding from:
• State of Florida
• Facility operator
• Future grants

Starting tomorrow, June 23, City of Pensacola contracted crews will begin repairing trip-and-fall hazards on sidewalks throughout the Old East Hill area. Residents can expect dust suppression and minimal noise during the repair process.

The purpose of the repairs is to increase safety while adhering to ADA-compliance requirements. Sidewalks in this area are listed on the city’s ADA Sidewalk Survey map, which shows a high concentration of minor-to-moderate trip hazards that can be easily improved for compliance.

For other areas of the city that require more extensive repairs, there are various projects in the works.

Happy Juneteenth! Today, we celebrate the end of slavery in the Confederate States.

Although President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863, an executive order declaring enslaved people in the Confederate States free, many continued to be held captive under Confederate control.

The arrival of 2,000 Union soldiers to Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, marked the official end of slavery across the Confederacy.

Later that year, the 13th Amendment became part of the U.S. Constitution — making the act of slavery unconstitutional throughout the nation and officially abolishing the institution of slavery.

On July 9, 1868, the 14th Amendment gave citizenship to all people born or naturalized in the U.S.

The City of Pensacola is excited to share that the Birdon project is on the agenda for the Triumph Gulf Coast Board Meeting this Monday, June 22, in Panama City.

This is an important milestone in the three-step process toward a Triumph Grant Award.

During Monday’s meeting, the board will review the proposed term sheet for the future grant agreement with the City of Pensacola, along with Birdon’s performance requirements.

If approved, the project will move closer to the next major milestones, which include:

✅Final grant agreement approval.
✅Lease negotiations between the City of Pensacola and Birdon.
✅Confirmation of additional state and federal funding opportunities.

In the meantime, Birdon is advancing project planning, including a noise study and workforce support initiatives, while the City works to prepare infrastructure and transportation solutions to accommodate future growth.

With an estimated $275 million investment, including two advanced manufacturing facilities totaling approximately 380,000 square feet, this project is a transformational opportunity for the City of Pensacola and the region.

We look forward to continued progress in the months ahead.
