It has been a very productive week in DC advocating for the missions and facilities at NAS Pensacola and NAS Whiting Field. The Northwest Florida Coalition with Commissioners Mike Kohler (Escambia), Colten Wright and Kerry Smith (Santa Rosa); Shannon Ogletree, ED Santa Rosa; and RADM Don Quinn (Ret) met with Congressional and Senate Officials sharing our story.

The community is invited to tour the USS Richard M. McCool Jr. and to participate in the commissioning of this amphibious transport dock as we welcome LPD 29 to NAS Pensacola.


The ship will offer free public tours September 2-4, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., and the U.S. Navy will commission the ship on September 7, 2024, at the NASP Pier at 10 a.m.


The USS Richard M. McCool Jr. is named in honor of U.S. Navy Captain Richard M. McCool Jr., who was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1945. McCool was honored for the heroism he displayed after his ship was attacked by Kamikaze pilots in the Battle of Okinawa.





Due to NASP security, limited Ship Tour times, and Commissioning seating, reservations will be required. The Ship Tour sign up link will go live on August 19th. The Commissioning Ceremony registration link is open. Remember to keep a copy of your confirmation for NASP check-in.
