Program Spotlight of the Week: Network Support

This week, we're highlighting the Network Support Program at George Stone Technical College!

Our Network Support Services students are starting with the fundamentals—learning the tools, equipment, and connections that make a computer network work.

Students are getting hands-on experience with technician tool bags and learning about the tools they will use throughout the program. They are also exploring Ethernet patch cables, network jacks, patch panels, switches, and how computers physically connect to a network.

One of the key concepts they're learning is the path a network connection takes:
Computer → Ethernet Cable → Wall Jack → Patch Panel → Network Switch → Network

Students are learning to identify each component, make proper connections, trace cables, organize and label network cabling, and recognize where to begin when a computer cannot connect.
These foundational skills are the building blocks for more advanced training in networking, server administration, cybersecurity, and troubleshooting throughout the year.

Most importantly, students are gaining experience with the same types of tools and equipment they can expect to encounter in the IT field.

What a GREAT First Day at GSTC!

The first day of school was a huge success at George Stone Technical College! We loved seeing our students back on campus, meeting new faces, reconnecting with familiar ones, and getting the new school year off to a fantastic start.

This year, we’re focused on creating opportunities for a greater future—and we can’t wait to see all that our students accomplish!

Here’s to an incredible school year filled with learning, growth, success, and new opportunities!

Welcome back, GSTC! We’re ready for a great year!

Opportunity starts here!

The day before school begins, Marine Service Technology instructor Stefan Schmitt took a few minutes to give us a tour of his classroom and learning areas—and to introduce students to the hands-on opportunities waiting for them this year.

Our word for the year is OPPORTUNITY, and that is exactly what we want for every student: as many opportunities as possible to learn, grow, discover their passions, and prepare for a successful future.

In Marine Service Technology, students aren’t just learning about the industry—they’re getting hands-on experience and building skills they can take with them into their careers.

We’re excited to see where this year’s opportunities take our students!

A huge THANK YOU to Sgt. Alanzo Jones for representing the United States Marine Corps and helping us celebrate the first day of school in such a thoughtful way!

Sgt. Jones brought donuts for our teachers and staff, adding a little extra sweetness to an exciting first day. We truly appreciate your support of George Stone Technical College and the educators who work hard every day to create opportunities that transform lives.

Thank you, Sgt. Jones, for thinking of our teachers and for your service to our community and country!
