This Great Blue Heron patient got to go home today!

Our friends at Escambia County Animal Welfare brought this guy in with a wing droop. We aren’t sure exactly what happened to him, but based on some minor wounds and surrounded feather damage, it was likely a fishing line entanglement of some sort.

We’re so happy to see him fully recovered and back to the wild!

Areas that are struggling with human development and habitat encroachment often double-down on the damage by not requiring native replanting after building!

Wanting to plant something new in your yard? Opt for a native choice instead and help your local ecosystem!

Don’t have a yard? Add a pot of native wildflowers to your front porch - they’re gorgeous to look at and your local pollinators will thank you.

Coexisting with our local ecosystems improves water quality, lowers disease rates, and improves air quality. What will you do this week to become a better wild neighbor?

Thank you so much to those who donated to cover Apollo’s favorite meal - fresh fish!

This guy is turning 44 in October. After some research, we believe (and other organizations believe) that he is the oldest Bald Eagle currently alive today. What a feat!
The oldest eagle that ever lived was 50.

This man has lived a great life at our sanctuary- raising his own eaglets and many foster eaglets that were all released to the wild. Apollo was a fierce father in his prime, always ready to defend his nest and his family. Even when his partner didn’t want to take in foster babies, he would raise them on his own. He’s a very impressive eagle. We’re so proud of him and his caretakers here at the sanctuary, for everything they’ve done for him.

Our hospital is breaking records too, already hitting over 3,000 patients to date. Want to help? Donate at the link in our bio to support wild patients.

Our raccoons are growing up fast! We had a few releases last week, but we’re also still receiving brand new babies. We’ve exceeded 3,000 patients already this year. Baby season is wild!

“Hello staff friend, when you’re done with the eagles, can you come play?” -Hudson

This is a juvenile Mississippi Kite who came in with a broken wing from an unknown cause. He’s recovering well and eating well during hand feedings.

Want to help our baby patients this season? Become a monthly donor (link in comments) and your funds will go directly to emergency medical treatment and nutrition of the thousands of patients we care for each year!

Each milestone matters! Baby opossums are completely dependent on their mothers their first weeks of their lives. The orphans in our hospital have to be tube fed multiple times a day to receive comparable nutrition. Watching them move from tube feeding to self-feeding is a major step! We love supporting our babies health, growth, & development until they’re ready for wild release.

Raccoons have tiny paws and big personalities! 🐾❤️ Play time is their favorite time here at our sanctuary, second only to nap time. Did you know they can climb down a tree head first? 🦝

It’s a gorgeous day to go back to the wild! Send good luck to our Blue Jay patients. 💙
