🗳️ ELECTION NIGHT RESULTS ARE IN

Mayor D.C. Reeves cleared the 50% mark outright, beating five challengers with 53.23% of the vote — no runoff needed. His campaign and PAC combined outspent his five opponents nearly 2-to-1.

In District 2, incumbent Mike Kohler broke a 20-year curse on that seat, beating Glenn Dorsey with 62%, even after County Clerk Pam Childers, Rep. Michelle Salzman, and Commissioner Ashley Hofberger publicly worked against him.

All three school board incumbents won comfortably, and voters said YES (71%-29%) to bringing back an elected superintendent.

Turnout came in lighter than expected — about 55,500 votes countywide, well short of the 59,000 projected.

We also tried something new Tuesday night: simulcasting Rick's Blog Live across YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. (IG didn't cooperate, but we're working on it.)

⚓ BIG NEWS FOR PENSACOLA'S WATERFRONT ⚓
Gov. Ron DeSantis was at the Port of Pensacola this morning to hand Mayor D.C. Reeves a $9 million state Job Growth Grant for a new 400,000-square-foot boat-building facility.

🚢 Birdon America will lease the building to produce Navy ship modules for submarines and surface ships up to 400 feet long 💰 The project is on top of a $76 million Triumph Gulf Coast grant already secured 📈 At full build-out: a $275 million investment and roughly 2,000 manufacturing jobs 🏆 Mayor Reeves calls it "the single largest job creation project in Pensacola's history"

The timing isn't an accident either—it lines up with NAS Pensacola's 200th anniversary, cementing the city's identity as a Navy town for the next generation.

Florida Commerce Secretary Alex Kelly also tied it to a new $40 million federal apprenticeship grant aimed at building out the shipbuilding workforce right here.

"The biggest misconception (that voters may have about this referendum) is that electing the superintendent increases accountability. It does the opposite. An elected superintendent answers to no one between elections except the governor, who alone holds the power to suspend an elected official. An appointed superintendent, by contrast, cannot be suspended by the governor at all and answers continuously to five locally elected Board members who can act with three votes. The second misconception is that this vote is about any particular person. It is about the structure of the office, which will outlast every individual who holds it." - LWVPBA Education Committee
