A Message from Gwen Wilson
TCUL Guild President
Since the outbreak of the Novel COVID-19 pandemic your guild officers re-assessed our Healthy Awareness Day event especially since in-person meetings were not an option. Our program’s continuity, this year, required thinking differently about engaging with you, our members.
Therefore, we will be sharing information through E-mail as shown in the attachments below. And also on your Guild’s page. In the search bar on Facebook, search for Tri-County Urban League Guild. There, Jennifer L. Belle provides helpful viewpoints relative to our theme: Emotional, Mental & Physical Well Being in Challenging Times.
Please share this email with your family and friends. Like the Guild’s page. Give comments, questions and suggestions. We are interested in your views and opinions and we want to keep you abreast of happenings within the National Urban League, the National Urban League Guild and Tri-County Urban League Guild.
Without YOU, your Guild, the National Council of Urban League Guilds nor National Urban League would exist.
I appreciate you and your support!
Stay Safe! Stay Healthy! Stay Home! But in November Go exercise your right to VOTE!

Mental Health and Coronavirus

Coronavirus has changed our normal lives in a very short amount of time. We are all trying to figure out what our “new” normal looks like as we stay home, work from home, continue working as an essential worker, laid off and even as virtual students. There is uncertainty as to how this will affect us long term or if we will ever go back to “normal” as we once knew it.
We have seen an increase in stress, anxieties and depression during this time. Though this may seem scary these reactions are not abnormal. It is ok for us to not feel ok during this time. As states are opening back up that triggers more stress and anxiety as we wonder what this will look like with everyone going back to normal.
There are some things we can do to help deal with the stress and anxiety/depression during this difficult time:
1. Acknowledge if you are feeling, stressed, fearful, anxious or depressed. Once you can identify what you are feeling you can take steps to manage it.
2. Control the things you can control: we cannot control others actions or actions of our government but we can control our behaviors and reactions. Limit your exposure to constant news coverage (you can be informed even if you are not watching 24 hours a day), stay home, if possible, to reduce possibility of infections, follow social distancing and hand washing if you do have to go out.
3. Practice Self-Care: It is important to take care of yourself. Create and maintain a regular daily schedule, stick with a consistent bedtime, exercise (YouTube videos or even a walk around your neighborhood), proper nourishment, reading, cooking or cleaning are all things that can help.
4. Stay in touch with others: even without physically seeing our family and friends we can still connect with others. Technology is making it easier for us to stay in contact through email, video chatting and social media. Make sure to check on older friends and family as well as friends who may live alone.
If you are feeling you need more help please do not hesitate to reach out to a mental health professional--- most therapists are doing video sessions to make sure that those that need support are able to receive it. Insurance companies are also being very flexible with copays and video session fees for their subscribers
Please know you are not alone and your feelings are real. We are all in this together and here to support each other.
