When Medicare beneficiaries are unable to act on their own behalf to address suspected Medicare fraud, errors, or abuse, the SMPs work with them, their family, caregivers, and others to address the problems.

If necessary, SMPs refer cases to the proper authorities for further investigation.

The SMP has been hearing reports about Annual Wellness Visit Questionnaire calls. These are not legitimate. If you get a call like this, hang up. Call your doctor's office and see if they called you. If you have given out or confirmed your Medicare number over the phone to a potential scammer, contact the to make a report and get help with protecting your Medicare number. Call 1.877.808.2468 or use the state locator at www.smpresource.org to find your SMP.
