Peoria Police Release Results of Traffic Enforcement Campaign

(PEORIA, IL) The Peoria Police Department is releasing the results of a recent Traffic Enforcement Campaign conducted on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The campaign was part of the department's ongoing efforts to improve roadway safety, reduce traffic-related crashes, and address hazardous driving behavior throughout the city.
The enforcement detail focused its efforts on several high-traffic areas, including Sterling Avenue between Nebraska Avenue and the Interstate 74 overpass, the intersection of War Memorial Drive and Knoxville Avenue, and the intersection of Sterling Avenue and War Memorial Drive.
During the campaign, officers conducted 54 traffic stops and issued a total of 71 citations for various traffic violations.

The citations included:

β€’ 32 for speeding

β€’ 18 for the unlawful use of an electronic communication device while driving

β€’ 9 for disregarding a traffic control device

β€’ 4 for failure to change address

β€’ 3 for driving without a valid driver's license

β€’ 2 for operating a vehicle without insurance

β€’ 1 for driving with a suspended driver's license

β€’ 1 for operating a vehicle with a suspended registration

β€’ 1 for an expired license plate

Speeding and distracted driving are common causes of traffic crashes. Our goal with these enforcement campaigns is to encourage safer driving and help prevent crashes before they happen.
"These traffic enforcement campaigns aren't just about issuing citations; they're about keeping our community safe. We want drivers to slow down, stay focused, and make safe choices when they get behind the wheel," says Peoria Police Chief Brad Dixon.
The Peoria Police Department will continue conducting traffic enforcement campaigns throughout the year in areas where traffic concerns have been identified.
We encourage all drivers to slow down, follow all traffic control signals, and stay focused on the road.
The Peoria Police Department will continue conducting traffic enforcement campaigns throughout the year in areas where traffic concerns have been identified.
