Today, we pause to honor and remember one of our own.

Twenty-three years ago today, on March 29, 2003, Staff Sgt. Jacob Frazier of the 169th Air Support Operations Squadron made the ultimate sacrifice when he was killed in combat while performing his duties in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Frazier enlisted in the Illinois Air National Guard in 1997, defined by a fierce determination to excel in everything he did. In January 2003, he deployed to work alongside U.S. Army Special Forces. In just two short months, his impact was profound. He participated in three critical reconnaissance missions that uncovered vital intelligence and personnel, directly helping to protect American lives.

For his extraordinary bravery, Staff Sgt. Frazier was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and the Illinois Military Medal for Valor.

Gone, but never forgotten.

Please join us in honoring Staff Sgt. Frazier today. We invite you to leave a memory or a message of respect in the comments, share his story with your network, and keep his family and brothers-in-arms in your thoughts. 🇺🇸

Thank you to University of Illinois Air Force ROTC Detachment 190 for spending time with us today for a tour!

We appreciated the chance to share the mission of the 182nd Airlift Wing and showcase the important work of the 182nd Civil Engineer Squadron and the 182nd Security Forces Squadron. It was also a great discussion on how our Air National Guard members operate alongside Active Duty counterparts as part of the Total Force, combining strengths to deliver airpower whenever and wherever it’s needed.

We’re grateful for your interest and dedication to service, and look forward to your future contributions to the Air Force.
