🎬✨ That’s a wrap on our 1930s Golden Age of Hollywood week at Peoria Friendship House!

Our campers had a star-studded time traveling back to the glamour and excitement of classic Hollywood. Throughout the week, students enjoyed playing Hollywood Bingo, learning about the iconic The Wizard of Oz, creating beautiful bookmarks for our Reading Club, exploring jewelry and fashion trends of the era, and even enjoying delicious Shirley Temple treats!

This week, our summer campers enjoyed an exciting hands-on learning experience as they visited the Galesburg Art Museum and the Galesburg Railroad Museum while exploring life in the 1930s!

Students discovered how art reflected the struggles and hopes of the Great Depression era and learned about the important role railroads played in connecting communities and transporting people and goods across America. From viewing historical exhibits to engaging with artifacts and interactive displays, our campers brought history to life in a meaningful way.

Experiences like these help our students connect classroom lessons with real-world history while building curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning.

A big thank you to the Peoria Fine Arts Society for helping make history come alive for our campers through the Creativity Grant this year.

⭐️Our Peoria Friendship House Summer Camp students have been learning all about the Golden Age of Hollywood! From discovering famous movie stars and classic films to exploring the glamour and excitement of old Hollywood, campers had a wonderful time stepping back in time.

To celebrate what they learned, students created their very own Hollywood Stars, just like those found on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! ⭐ Each star showcased their creativity and allowed them to imagine what it would be like to be a famous Hollywood celebrity.

🦆🥚 Duck Discovery at Peoria Friendship House!

Our students have been having an exciting time learning all about ducks and the amazing journey from egg to duckling! Throughout the week, campers explored the egg incubation process, discovering how eggs are cared for, kept warm, and monitored as they develop.

Students learned about the life cycle of ducks, the importance of incubation, and what ducklings need to grow and thrive. Through hands-on activities and interactive lessons, they gained a deeper appreciation for nature, science, and the wonders of new life. We can’t wait to see the progress each week!

What a fantastic week at Peoria Friendship House Summer Camp as we wrapped up our Roaring 20s theme! 🎷✨

Campers had a blast learning about baseball legend Babe Ruth, exploring popular 1920s games like yo-yos and tiddlywinks, discovering the incredible achievements of aviator Amelia Earhart, and creating their own stylish 1920s-inspired fashions.

Thank you to our campers, families, and staff for making this Roaring 20s adventure such a success. We can’t wait to see next weeks theme: 1930s Golden Age of Hollywood!

Our older campers stepped back in time this week as they experienced life during the pioneer days! Students explored hands-on skills that early settlers used every day, including candle making, woodworking, gardening, and other traditional crafts.

Through these activities, campers learned the value of hard work, creativity, problem-solving, and self-sufficiency while gaining a deeper appreciation for history. From building with wood to planting and caring for gardens, every activity helped bring the pioneer era to life in a fun and engaging way.

We are proud of our campers for embracing new challenges, learning practical skills, and discovering how people lived before modern technology. What a great way to connect history with hands-on learning!

💃🕺 Stepping Back into the Roaring 1920s! 🎶

Today, the students at Peoria Friendship House summer camp had a fantastic time learning one of the most popular dances of the 1920s—the Charleston! As part of our journey through the Roaring Twenties, students discovered how music, dance, and culture brought people together during this exciting decade.

Not only did they learn the history behind the Charleston, but they also practiced the energetic kicks, twists, and rhythms that made this dance a sensation nearly 100 years ago.

We are so proud of our young dancers for stepping out of their comfort zones and bringing the spirit of the 1920s to life!
