A comprehensive plan is a long-term guide that expresses the values and aspirations of a community. It is the broadest public policy document a community can create for future physical development considering the input of residents, businesses, and other stakeholders. The plan is a tool to prepare for change and acts as a guidebook for decision-makers.

The draft plan was created based on input from previous public comments and stakeholder input starting in 2025. We are now in the second round of plan development. The final plan is expected to be adopted by the Peoria County Board later this year.

Full details on the process and the new survey are available at https://peoriacounty200plus.com.

☃️ Composting During the Winter

We realize the snowy months are far away now, but we didn't want to wait to answer a question many of you had about composting during the winter.

You can compost year-round by adjusting a few techniques during the colder months. Composting during the winter is essentially the same as the warmer months, but the process slows due to conditions. If your compost pile freezes, decomposition pauses and resumes when temperatures rise.

Tips for Winter Composting
❄️ Use a larger pile to retain heat in the center
❄️ Balance greens and browns
❄️ Stock up on browns before winter hits
❄️ Continue layering
