Early Morning Garage Fire in Peotone

At approximately 5:30 a.m., Manhattan Fire Protection District crews responded to the 100 block of East Lincoln Street in Peotone for a reported detached garage fire.

Firefighters arrived within minutes to find a working fire threatening nearby structures. A Full Still Alarm was requested, and crews quickly brought the fire under control within 15 minutes, preventing extension to surrounding properties.

No injuries were reported.

We appreciate the assistance of our mutual aid partners who responded to the scene and provided coverage during the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time..

This award honors the legacy of Matthew Zack, whose passion for the fire service, commitment to learning, and dedication to those around him left a lasting impact on our organization. Adrian's journey with the Manhattan Fire Protection District began as a paramedic rider. Through hard work, dedication, and a commitment to continuous improvement, he progressed to a part-time paramedic role, completed the fire academy, served as a part-time firefighter/paramedic, and ultimately earned a full-time position in 2026.

Beyond his own development, Adrian has demonstrated a passion for helping others succeed. He regularly assists paramedic students, shares his knowledge, and helps build confidence in those entering the profession. His positive attitude, strong work ethic, and dedication to learning have earned the respect of his peers and supervisors alike.

Named after Dale “Chubb” VanderBoegh, this award recognizes an officer who exemplifies leadership, professionalism, dedication to training, pride in the organization, and commitment to both the fire service and family.

Lt. Christensen was nominated and voted on by members of the department for his leadership, mentorship, and ability to motivate those around him each and every shift. Over the coming months, representatives from Verisk/ISO will be visiting commercial properties throughout the district as part of a nationwide review of our community’s fire protection capabilities. These informational visits help ensure building and fire protection records are accurate and contribute to the district’s Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating — a rating many insurance companies use when determining commercial property insurance premiums. Strong fire protection services and a favorable ISO rating can potentially help reduce insurance premiums for local businesses and property owners.
