Our officers are out until 12:00 PM raising money for an incredible cause while also offering this year’s Torch Run shirts, hats, and insulated coffee cups.

Information from IDOT re: Rt. 50 roadwork....

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that patching and resurfacing of Illinois 50 between Beecher and Wilmington roads in Peotone will require intermittent daytime lane closures beginning, weather permitting, Friday, May 1. ​

The $1.3 million project, which consists of resurfacing the 1.2-mile stretch of Illinois 50, shoulder widening and constructing new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, is anticipated to be completed in September. Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

We want to make residents aware of an increase in scam emails and text messages claiming you owe money to the Village of Peotone or another government agency.

⚠️ What to watch for:

Messages saying you owe fines, fees, or taxes
Urgent threats of penalties, suspension, or legal action
Requests for immediate payment (often via unusual methods)

🛑 Protect Yourself:

Check the sender’s email address or phone number carefully — scammers often use addresses that look official but are slightly altered.
Do NOT click links or open attachments from suspicious messages.
Never use the phone number or contact info provided in the message.
Instead, contact the Village or agency directly using a trusted, official phone number or website to verify the claim.

✅ Remember: Government agencies will not demand immediate payment through suspicious emails, texts, or gift cards.

If you are unsure whether a message is legitimate or believe you’ve been targeted, please contact the Peotone Police Department for assistance.

🚨 Reminder to Peotone Residents – Electric Scooter Law 🚨

The State of Illinois made the use of low-speed electric scooters illegal on the public way under state law (625 ILCS 5/11-1518). Because Peotone is not a Home Rule municipality, we must follow state law as written.

Violations can include:
• Driving without a valid license
• No insurance

These violations can result in fines, misdemeanor charges, and possible suspension of driving privileges until age 18.

To help protect our youth from serious state charges, the Mayor and Village Board adopted a local ordinance allowing officers to issue municipal citations instead of state charges in many cases.
