Stay weather aware today as a second round of potentially severe storms roll in this afternoon.

A warm front lifting through our region brings a period of humid and unsettled weather today. Expecting two rounds of rainfall, the first, a round of showers in the morning followed by a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The strength and coverage of severe weather depends on the amount of clearing this afternoon.

Schools out for the summer!

As students and teachers celebrate the end of the school year, and the summer months heat up, safety still remains a top priority. This time of year, children especially are at risk for unintentional drownings.

The CDC reports that Drowning is a leading cause of death for children. Drowning can be fatal or nonfatal. Nonfatal drowning can result in long-term health problems and costly hospital stays.

Adults need to stay with children when they are in or around water. DO NOT read, use a cell phone or leave children to go someplace else. For preschoolers, an adult should be close enough to touch the child. Never swim near a boat, marina or boat launch.

Stay cool this summer, but above all, stay safe!
