After more than 35 years of dedicated service, Command Sergeant Major Mark Hermelink officially retires from the United States Army. Enlisting in 1989, his career spanned multiple combat and contingency operations across the globe, including Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. His leadership culminated in serving as Command Sergeant Major for the 412th and 478th Civil Affairs Battalions (Airborne). We thank CSM Hermelink for a lifetime of service, leadership, and commitment to Soldiers and the Nation, he will be greatly missed. 🇺🇸

🎖️ Celebrating 70 Years of U.S. Army Reserve Civil Affairs 🎖️

❤️ Today, we honor 70 years of unwavering service, sacrifice, and strategic impact by the U.S. Army Reserve Civil Affairs forces. From the front lines of global conflict to the heart of communities struck by disaster, you have stood as quiet professionals, bridging the gap between military operations and humanitarian need.

🤍 You are there before the first shot is fired. You lay the groundwork for stability and you remain long after the dust has settled, helping rebuild lives, infrastructure, governments, and trust. Whether in war zones, disaster zones, or complex civil environments, you carry out missions that often go unseen—but never unnoticed.

💙 Your efforts in disaster relief, humanitarian aid, governance, and civil-military coordination have saved lives and restored hope in some of the world's most difficult regions and moments. At home and abroad, you make peace possible and resilience real.

🇺🇸 To every Civil Affairs soldier, past and present: thank you. Your dedication exemplifies the best of what our military stands for—compassion, cooperation, and courage.
Here's to 70 years of impact—and to the decades of service still ahead. 🇺🇸
