This past weekend, our Chief Assistant D.A., Greg Winters, was honored to participate in a domestic violence memorial walk hosted by the newly established MJC Advocacy Group, founded by Tomeka Chaney in loving memory of her daughter, Michaela Chaney.

Michaela’s life was tragically cut short by domestic violence in February 2024. In April 2025, Greg successfully prosecuted her killer, securing a conviction for malice murder and a sentence of life without parole. Pictured here with Greg, Tomeka has turned an unimaginable loss into a mission to advocate for victims of family violence and honor her daughter’s memory.

We commend Tomeka for her courage and dedication, and we look forward to supporting the important work of MJC Advocacy Group in our community. Michaela Chaney will never be forgotten.

Mahlon Jones pleads guilty to Aggravated Assault with Intent to R**e from a 2025 domestic assault — sentenced to 30 years with the first 18 years in prison.

With October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, this case is a sobering but illustrative example of the crucial work being done by the Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia on behalf of victims of family violence and sexual assault. Their work in this case—combined with the always-determined efforts of Detective Karmen Thompson and Asst. D.A. Sandra Matson—speaks for itself, and shows that there are resources available to assist survivors in this community.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to recognize the devastating impact family violence has on communities like ours across the nation. We appreciate the Houston Home Journal for helping bring attention to this important issue and for highlighting the work being done throughout Houston County to combat family violence.

Our office remains committed to working alongside law enforcement and community partners to protect survivors, hold abusers accountable, and make clear that domestic violence will always be taken seriously here.

Marquise Howard found guilty of Aggravated Sexual Battery and Child Molestation after two-day jury trial, sentenced to life in prison.

We are so thankful to have dedicated professionals like Asst. DA Elizabeth McDaniel and the women and men of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Investigations Division standing up for children in this community. In this case, they amplified the voices of two very young victims, and the defendant will serve a well-deserved sentence of life in prison as a result.

29-year-old Marquise Howard was found guilty after a two-day jury trial, and was sentenced to serve life in prison.

Fantastic work by Asst. D.A. Mike Smith, Provisional Asst. D.A. Megan Taylor, and the HCSO Traffic Division in demonstrating that those who flee from lawful law enforcement vehicle stops in Houston County will always face prison time.

Dymeen Wayne Smith of Macon was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty in two November 2025 chases involving Houston County deputies.

Constitution Day is one of our favorite days of the year! Eric was blown away by the thoughtfulness and intelligence on display in the questions asked by this incredibly bright group of fourth graders!

Our 4th grade students had a special opportunity to celebrate Constitution Day by welcoming Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards to our school! Mr. Edwards spoke with students about the Constitution, our legal system, and the role of the District Attorney’s Office in our community.

We appreciate Mr. Edwards taking the time to visit and help bring our students’ classroom learning to life. What a meaningful way for our Wildcats to learn more about citizenship, government, and the Constitution! ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸

Patrick Cotton was found guilty after a jury trial this week of a string of 2025 domestic assaults, and was sentenced to 60 years with the first 30 years to serve in prison. Cotton's case was investigated by WRPD's Det. Karmen Thompson and prosecuted by Assistant D.A. Mike Smith.

In a separate case, Eugene Fuller pleaded guilty just before his scheduled trial this week to Aggravated Assault in a domestic violence incident from earlier this year, and received 10 years in prison. Fuller was investigated by WRPD's Sgt. Tyler Delgiorno and prosecuted by Assistant D.A. Sandra Matson.

Family violence and intimate partner violence cases are among the most challenging we deal with, but we will never shy away from seeking a full measure of accountability for abusers in our community.

Two men were sentenced in Houston County on Tuesday in spearate domestic violence cases.

Roderick Evans pleads guilty to Possession of Co***ne with Intent to Distribute on morning of scheduled trial — sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Thank you to Aaron Conner and the rest of Perry Police Dept.’s Narcotics Investigations team for their relentless continued efforts to rid the streets of our community of dangerous drugs! Evans was prosecuted by Assistant D.A. Lina Khan Leh of our office.

A Perry man was convicted once again for trafficking co***ne in Houston County, accoriding to the District Attorney's Office.
