Tomorrow is voting day! I wanted to share my opening statement from the Candidate Forum a few weeks back and encourage the Perry Community to get out and vote!
I started calling Perry “home” in 2014. As a mom with four kids ranging from ages 1 to 9, I came here hoping to find community. Tonight, as a mom of four kids ranging from ages 9 to 17, I’m hoping to serve the community I found.
My name is Mindy Farmer and I am running for Perry School Board because as a parent, public librarian, and educator, I am passionate about literacy, education, and community. I know what it’s like to be a new mom navigating an unfamiliar, sometimes daunting school system. I’ve wrestled with homework, 504 plans, and bullying. I’ve celebrated as my kids have crossed finish lines, sung their hearts out at delightfully off-tune choir concerts, and finally figured out that tricky math concept. As a teacher and substitute, I’ve also experienced some of the many joys and challenges of working in Kindergarten classes all the way to college classes. I know what it’s like to feel supported by the school system and I understand how it feels to advocate for improvement.
And I’ve learned through all of this that communication, compassion, and collaboration are all essential for continuing to grow and improve our community schools. As a school board member, I will champion a district culture of collaboration, shared responsibility, and respect. I will advocate for a positive, engaging, and safe learning environment for all students and teachers. When you select your next Perry School Board members, I encourage you to choose Mindy Farmer as one of your representatives.
