Yesterday JCFD #3 responded with Fairview ( #6), Oskaloosa ( #8), Union/McLouth ( #9), and Wi******er ( #14) Fire Departments to assist on an out of control wildland fire in Shawnee County in the area of K-4 and Hoch Rd. Neighbors helping neighbors have no boundaries when help is needed!

99.99% of the time we put out a house when it is on fire...today was that .01%!! A resident of the township approached the fire department about using an abandoned house for training, and then burning it. Today was the day! Normally, we are too busy trying to put the fire out to watch and learn about fire behavior and spread. As you can see in the pictures and videos the firefighters today got to see that. A huge thank you to the Snavely family for letting us use the house (and just so happened to be former members of the fire department too!) All KAR regulations were followed as well

Due to a line of duty death of a firefighter in Leavenworth County, the flag at the fire station will be flown at half staff until further notice. The members of JCFD # 3 offer our heartfelt condolences to the members of his department, family, and friends.

Due to the current weather forecast through the weekend, Jefferson County has enacted a burning ban effective immediately. No open burning will be allowed...the only burning allowed will be for trash in a burn barrel. For residents that do burn their trash, please make sure you keep a screen over the top and watch the fire until it is out. It would also be a good idea to wet down the area around the barrel before burning and keep a garden hose handy. Please think of your neighbor's neighbors property if you do burn, because that's probably where we'll finally get the fire put out if you don't!!😳

Due to the concern over the Corona virus, the annual chili supper that was to be held on March 28th has been postponed until further notice. We are closely monitoring the situation. For up to date information you can follow the Jefferson County Emergency Management page.

Firefighters from JCFD #3 took advantage of pretty ideal conditions friday night and earlier today and we were able to perform some controlled burns for residents of Rural Township. It was a good refresher for the members and great training for a new member of the department!!!
