Severe Weather Week
March 22nd thru March 26th

Iowa Homeland Security, Emergency Management Division, and the National Weather Service have designated the week of March 22 through March 26, 2021 as Severe Weather Awareness Week. Topics to be discussed this year will include:
Monday – Severe Thunderstorms
Tuesday – Receiving Warning information
Wednesday – Tornadoes
Thursday – Family Preparedness
Friday – Flooding
The National Weather Service will issue public information statements each day during the week promoting severe weather safety. The National Weather Service has information available on their website concerning severe weather and preparedness at PowerPoint Presentation (weather.gov) or Des Moines, IA (weather.gov).
The City of Perry will be participating in the statewide tornado drill scheduled for Wednesday March 24, 2021 between at around 11:00 A.M. In the event of severe weather the test will be postponed until Thursday March 25, 2021. The siren tones will cycle as it does in a true emergency. We do not sound an all clear. The annual tornado drill is an excellent time to review tornado safety plans, conduct tornado drills in companies, schools, and other facilities. I would encourage your organization to participate in this annual event.

A vigorous storm system will roll through the Southern U.S. over the next 2 days or through Thursday and a widespread severe weather outbreak is expected from the Lower Mississippi Valley and South into the Southeast. These intense thunderstorms are capable of producing numerous tornadoes (several i...

We know it’s a lazy day for many but with the snow falling the Street Department will be out clearing the streets. Accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected which means the snow ordinance is in effect. Please move your vehicles off the street until the snow and the streets are plowed from curb to curb which will not be until tomorrow afternoon. Thanks!

The meteorologists can’t agree on how much snow we are going to get tonight. Anywhere from 1/2 to 4 inches are predicted. Please move off the streets to be safe so you’re not caught in violation of the city snow ordinance. Thanks!
