Camping season is here at Mark Twain Lake!

MARK TWAIN LAKE — The Ray Behrens, Indian Creek and Frank Russell campgrounds open today, March 31, 2023. Note: Frank Russell sites 1-60 will be closed for upgrades, however equestrian sites 61-67 will remain open.

The campground in Mark Twain State Park at Florida is open year-round. A number of the campsites and cabins are reservable by calling the toll-free centralized reservation system at 877-422-6766 or by going to www.mostateparks.com. Some campsites and cabins are also available on a first come-first served basis.

Camp Colborn, an organized group camp, boasts a dining lodge, kitchen, sleeping cabins and outdoor play court. Two public boat ramps and a third for campers only provide easy access to the lake. Open and enclosed shelter houses and picnic areas are available in the Buzzard’s Roost day use area, along with a pair of spectacular scenic overlooks. Six miles of trails meander between the Buzzard’s Roost area and the campground.

Camping fees for the 2023 season will be $26 per site per day for electric sites at Indian Creek and Ray Behrens campgrounds. Each site is equipped with electric hookups, a picnic table and grill. Campers have access to hot showers, hiking trails and trailer dumping stations. Wi-Fi is available for purchase at both Ray Behrens and Indian Creek Campgrounds. The Indian Creek Campground also includes a beach and a one-lane boat ramp.

The Indian Creek and Ray Behrens areas also will have a limited number of full hook-up campsites. They may be rented for $30 per site per night. Camping fees for all 65 sites at Frank Russell Area will be $26 per site per day. However, some sites may be closed in 2023 for site upgrades, including sewer, water and electric.

These areas offer a water-borne comfort station with hot shower facilities, electric hook-ups, picnic tables, grills, dump station and playgrounds.

The John F. Spalding Beach and the Indian Creek Campground Beach will open May 5. The Spalding area offers a beach, shower house, restrooms, playground, picnic shelters and picnic sites, and day use fees are charged. Indian Creek Beach is open to campers of Indian Creek campground only.

John C. “Jack” Briscoe group campground is open April 22 through October 17. Indian Creek group campground is open April 29 through September 26. Group camp reservations can be made online at www.recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777.

The picnic areas at the Indian Creek and Ray Behrens Recreation Areas will open April 29. The M.W. Boudreaux Visitor Center Picnic Area is open all year, while the picnic area in the Spalding Recreation Area will open on April 15. Grills and restrooms are located in each area, as well as a playground in Spalding.

The David C. Berti Shooting Range, located in the South Spillway Area below Cannon Dam, is open daily until dusk, except during special events.

Opened to the public in 2017, an archery park is located in the Frank Russell Recreation Area.

Picnic shelters in major recreation areas are available for reservation for a fee of $30. If not reserved, shelters are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Shelter reservations can be made by contacting Recreation One Stop at 877-444-6777 or recreation.gov.

Day use and picnic facilities at the Bluffview and Warren G. See South Spillway Recreation Areas and Mark Twain State Park, as well as hunter/fisherman parking lots and boat ramps at Mark Twain Lake remain open throughout the year, weather permitting. Comfort stations are closed in early winter and opened in early spring, depending on the weather.
