🇺🇸 Memorial Day weekend is here, which means two things in Perry:

1. Honoring the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
2. Watching people slam on their brakes because they spotted a $3 lawn chair at a yard sale.

Please be extra cautious this weekend with the town-wide yard sales bringing increased traffic, parked vehicles, distracted shoppers, and the occasional person crossing the street carrying a w**d eater, three lamps, and a box of VHS tapes.

A few friendly reminders from your local police department:
• Slow down — the “YARD SALE” signs are not emergency alerts
• Watch for kids, pedestrians, and people wandering into the road staring at old tools
• Don’t block driveways or intersections
• Lock your vehicles while shopping
• And for the love of all things holy… PLEASE don’t drink and drive

Let’s keep the weekend safe, respectful, and accident free while we remember what Memorial Day is truly about!

PERRY BUSINESS OWNERS — PLEASE HELP ME AVOID AN AWKWARD CONVERSATION

It’s that time again.

Business licenses are due in MAY.
They become delinquent in JUNE.

I’m going to be completely honest… I do not want to have the awkward conversation.

You know the one.
The slow head nod.
The Heyyyy… sooooo…

Nobody enjoys that.
Not you.
Not me.
Not the clipboard I’m holding.

We live in a small town. I’m going to see you at Casey’s. At the restaurants. At a ballgame. Let’s not make eye contact weird because of paperwork.

Yes, it’s annoying.
Yes, it’s one more thing on your to-do list. Yes, I actually do have more important things to do… But it’s far less painful than me having to bring it up after June 1st.

Do your future self (and me) a favor:
1. Renew it in May
2. Stay in good standing
3. Keep me from practicing my “disappointed dad” voice

Contact City Hall if you have any questions!!

Thanks!!!

Happy Resurrection Day! I want to share something that is deeply important to me personally.

This day to me is not just a holiday… it is the foundation of the Christian faith. It is the day we remember that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose again three days later. The resurrection is a powerful reminder that sin and death were defeated, and that through Christ we are offered grace, forgiveness, and new life.

My faith in Jesus is single handedly the most important part of my life. It influences the way I try to live, the way I guide my family, the way I treat people, and the way I serve this community. The calling to serve others, show compassion, and pursue what is right are values that come directly from that faith.

Resurrection Sunday is a reminder that no matter how dark things may seem, there is always hope. Because of Christ, there is always the opportunity for redemption, forgiveness, and a fresh start.

So, from my family to yours, I wish everyone a safe and blessed Resurrection Sunday.

He is risen.

Perry Police Department – Golf Cart & UTV Reminder

With warmer weather upon us, I’m starting to see more golf carts and UTVs out around town. Which is GREAT! They can be a convenient way to get around Perry, but there are a few requirements that must be met before operating them on city streets.

Before a golf cart or UTV (side by side) can be operated within the city limits, it must be inspected by the Perry Police Department and registered with the city. Once inspected and approved, the vehicle will receive a city-issued sticker.

Good news — the inspection and city sticker are completely FREE and only done once!

Some important rules to remember:

• The vehicle must display a safety triangle or safety flag
• The vehicle must have valid insurance
• If operating after sunset or before sunrise, the vehicle must have working headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals
• The operator must have a valid driver’s license

And to be very clear:

A learner’s permit does NOT qualify. The operator must have a valid driver’s license.

These requirements are in place to help keep everyone safe while allowing residents to enjoy using these vehicles around town. If you have a golf cart or UTV that hasn’t been inspected yet, please reach out to me and we’ll get you taken care of.

I sure appreciate your help with this matter!

Chief’s Tip of the Week!

I’ve been noticing a growing trend during traffic stops lately… vehicles on the road without insurance. And unfortunately, “I thought I still had it” isn’t one of the coverage options your insurance company offers.

So here’s your friendly reminder from your local police department: if you’re driving, your vehicle needs to be insured.

Before you head out tomorrow, it might not be a bad idea to take 30 seconds and make sure that little insurance card in your glovebox is still valid and not from 2022.

Also, I’ll be honest with you (I believe I speak for all LEO’s) one of the most irritating parts of a traffic stop is when someone spends five minutes looking through their phone, digging through the glovebox, center console, old receipts, their napkins from Casey’s/McDonald’s trying to find proof of insurance… only to discover they don’t actually have it. It happens WAY more than you’d think. Shoot, people it’s 2026, screenshot that sucker and save it!

So do yourself (and your local officer wherever you are) a favor and check it ahead of time.

Ask yourself: Is my insurance active? Is the card in my vehicle? Is it actually current?

If the answer is “uhhh…” it might be time to make a quick phone call to your insurance agent.

I promise that phone call is a lot less awkward than explaining it during a traffic stop.

As always, stay safe out there!

I just received a briefing from the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency regarding the potential for severe weather across northern Missouri later this afternoon and into the evening.

Current forecasts indicate we could see strong to severe thunderstorms capable of damaging winds, large hail, and possibly a few tornadoes.

Most likely timeframe: Late afternoon through late evening.

Please take a few minutes today to prepare:

• Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts
• Review your severe weather safety plan
• Secure any loose outdoor items
• Be prepared to seek shelter quickly if warnings are issued

The Perry Christian Church located at 302 E. Salling St. as well as the Perry Baptist Church located at 509 E. Salling St. will be unlocked for those who need emergency shelter.

I will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if conditions change.

Stay weather aware and stay safe.

Chief’s thought for the week:

If you’re going to drive it like you stole it…

Step one is probably don’t drive it through town at 52 in a 25.

This is Perry. Not Fast & Furious 14.

Also… if you didn’t steal it,
but you also don’t have insurance, a valid license, or current tags…

You’re really just speed running bad decisions.

Drive normal.
Wave at us.
Keep your court dates fictional
