As students across Houston County head back to school today, the Houston County Solicitor-General’s Office wishes everyone a safe, successful, and exciting school year!

As you travel this morning and throughout the year, please remember:
🚌 Slow down in school zones and obey all posted speed limits.
🚸 Stay alert for children crossing streets and walking near roadways.
🛑 Watch carefully for school buses loading and unloading students, and always stop when required by law.

A few extra moments of caution can make all the difference in keeping our children, bus drivers, crossing guards, and school staff safe.

Let’s work together to make this school year a safe one for every student. Welcome back, Houston County!

This week has been a reminder that excellence doesn’t happen by accident—it takes a commitment to learning, teamwork, and a dedicated staff.

Our attorneys spent the week at the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia (PAC) Summer Conference, sharpening their skills through Continuing Legal Education to better serve the citizens of Houston County. The law is constantly evolving, and we’re committed to growing alongside it so we can provide the highest level of service and justice.

One of the highlights of the week was joining our friends from the Houston County District Attorney’s Office for a joint office dinner. It was a great opportunity to strengthen the partnerships that help make our justice system work each and every day.

While our attorneys were in training, business at home never skipped a beat. Our incredible office staff continued to keep everything running efficiently, effectively, and like a well-oiled machine. Their professionalism and dedication are the foundation of our office, and we’re incredibly grateful for all they do behind the scenes.

As a small token of appreciation, the staff enjoyed lunch together this week—on the boss. It was well deserved.

Thank you to every member of the Houston County Solicitor-General’s Office. Whether you’re in the courtroom, in the classroom, or behind the scenes, your commitment to serving this community makes a difference every single day.

Today, we join communities across Houston County and our nation in commemorating Juneteenth—a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the enduring ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity.

Juneteenth serves as a reminder of our shared history and the continued importance of justice for all. As we reflect on the sacrifices, perseverance, and contributions of generations who helped shape our country, we also recommit ourselves to the principles of fairness, respect, and unity that strengthen our communities.

The Houston County Solicitor-General’s Office is proud to honor this important day and the values it represents.

⚖️ The State Has Rested.

The May Jury Trial Term has concluded for the Houston County Solicitor-General’s Office.

State Court conducts criminal jury trials in two-week terms, and this term began with more than 450 cases on the trial calendar. Through the hard work of prosecutors, defense attorneys, court staff, and judges, that number was reduced to approximately 80 cases by the start of jury selection.

Over the past two weeks, 8 juries were selected, resulting in 7 cases being resolved and 1 case being continued. Of those resolutions, the State secured 4 guilty verdicts and 2 guilty pleas.

While successful prosecutions are an important part of our mission, our office remains committed to something even greater: justice.

Justice is not always measured by a guilty verdict or a guilty plea. Our Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to a trial by jury, and at the Solicitor-General’s Office, our responsibility is to present the evidence, uphold the law, and ensure the State fulfills its duty. The jury then performs its vital role as the finder of fact.

We are grateful for every juror who served, every citizen who answered the call to serve, and every member of the justice system who worked tirelessly throughout this trial term.

Thank you to the citizens of Houston County for your service, your sacrifice, and your commitment to our system of justice.

⚖️ Justice Served. Justice Preserved.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty secured the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer — it is a solemn reminder of the cost of liberty and the debt of gratitude we owe to those who never made it home.

May we all take at least a moment today to reflect on the heroes who gave everything for our country and keep their families in our thoughts and prayers.

From the Houston County Solicitor-General’s Office, we wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

As families and friends gather to honor Memorial Day weekend, we encourage everyone to celebrate safely and responsibly.

Too many lives are changed forever each year because of impaired driving. If your plans include alcohol, make a plan ahead of time:
• Designate a sober driver
• Use a ride share or call a friend or family member
• Never get behind the wheel impaired

This weekend, we remember and honor the heroes who sacrificed for our freedom by protecting the lives of those around us here at home.

From all of us at the Houston County Solicitor-General’s Office, have a safe Memorial Day weekend.
