Round of applause for FF/medic Andy Berry for receiving the “Firefighter of the Year” presented by the Exchange Club of Perrysburg. The 13 year veteran of the Perrysburg Township Fire and EMS Department has been a cool, calm, and contributing member to the fire station. We are all very proud of him and you should be too!

Berry’s B-Shift Captain, Michael Hampton III, spoke proudly of his private from behind the lectern. Chief Brice, was also on hand to support his newest firefighter of the year recipient.

🚨🚨🚨🚨Use extreme caution if you are fishing in, on, or around the Maumee River.🚨🚨🚨🚨

The walleye run is in full effect and so are the April showers. The Maumee runs down hill from Fort Wayne, IN. So any rain they get to the west will get to our area a couple days later. If it is heavy like it has been here it takes a few days to flow downstream.

Please, please, please be very careful. Wear a life jacket!!!

The water takes two or three days to rise and when it does it will be quick and fast.

🚨🚨🚨TRAINING UPDATE🚨🚨🚨

Maumee River water rescue training is taking place amongst several agencies the next couple days. Don’t be alarmed if you see fire boats from various departments moving up and down the river in the Maumee/Perrysburg area. You might also see “floating dummies” and rescuers in the water, this is all part of the training.

Low frequency, high risk. That sums up hazmat calls. For the past three weeks each shift has been getting eight hours of training to refresh and brush up on their skills. Brothers, Jake and Joe Hoffman from Squad 5 Fire Training taught the class. Radiation detection and meters along with sampling drills were big take home points of the class. Dry decontamination and clean up was also a focus of the session.
