An area of thunderstorms is expected to move southeast across
much of the region late this evening into the overnight
hours. Damaging wind gusts and tornadoes will be possible,
primarily along the Interstate 64 corridor through southern
Illinois and southwest Indiana.

- Additional showers and storms are expected (40-70%) Thursday
and Thursday night over the Missouri Bootheel and west
Kentucky, with lesser chances farther north and west. A few
strong to severe storm with damaging winds cannot be ruled out
over west Kentucky in the afternoon.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for this afternoon through sunset
over most of southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and
southwest Indiana, and a portion of northwest Kentucky, while
a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for Kentucky Lake and Lake
Barkley. Southwest winds at 15-30 mph and gusting 35-50 mph
are expected, with the strongest winds over southern
Illinois.

We have another hot and humid day on tap today followed by the potential for a few severe storms later this evening into the overnight. Looks like a low-end event though, as storms are expected to be weakening as they push into our area. Another round of thunderstorms is possible Saturday into Saturday night, including a few stronger storms and the potential for heavy rain which may cause some flooding concerns.

From the National Weather Service: Hot and humid today and tomorrow with heat index values approaching 105 degrees. Thunderstorms approach from the north Thursday night with a small risk a few remain severe upon arrival then back in the soup by Saturday night into Sunday. A heavy rain/flooding threat may emerge in the Sunday to Tuesday period based on the way it looks right now, but it is still a pretty messy signal.

From the National Weather Service:
Expecting a few rounds of thunderstorms today as a weak system slowly passes overhead. There is a level 1/5 risk for severe storms with isolated brief tornadoes and locally damaging wind the main concern. The risk for that is highest early this morning across parts of SEMO and southern Illinios and then spreading everywhere by the afternoon and early evening. We don't expect a widespread severe weather event just a few clusters from time to time through the day.

The hottest weather of the year so far then comes in for mid week with heat index values 100 to 105 forecast area-wide.

Temperatures will creep into the middle to upper 80s today and Saturday along with rising humidity levels. There will be a good chance (50-80%) of showers and thunderstorms each day Sunday through Tuesday. We will dry out Wednesday into Thursday, but heat index values will approach or exceed 100
