The Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site is one of the most unaltered Civil War sites in the nation; vistas visible today are virtually those soldiers saw on that fateful day on October 8, 1862.

Attention: Under Kentucky State Parks Regulations (304 KAR 1:050) KRS 148.021 The Kentucky Administrative Regulations for Metal Detectors state that the use of metal detectors is prohibited in all Kentucky state parks. Under KRS 148.991, unauthorized digging or surface disturbance in a state park can result in fines of $10 to $100, or a jail sentence of up to 10 days. Since the Perryville Battlefield is covered under the Kentucky Antiquities Act, violating the Kentucky Antiquities Act (Kentucky Revised Statutes KRS 164.715 and KRS 164.720) on state or municipal lands is a Class D felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison, substantial fines, and the mandatory forfeiture of all equipment used in the offense. Over the weekend metal detectorists were seen metal detecting on the battlefield. Please report any incidents to the park manager with as much detail as possible including photographs of license plates.
