Public Safety Notice: Fake $20 Bills / “Motion Picture Money”

The Perryville Police Department recently took a report involving the attempted use of fake $20 bills marked as “Motion Picture Money.” On the front of the bill, the words “Motion Picture Purposes” can be seen on the right side.

Unfortunately, this type of fake money is easy to obtain, and it can look real at a quick glance.

We are asking all local businesses to please remind employees to carefully check bills before completing transactions, especially during busy times or near closing. A few extra seconds can prevent a loss to your business.

Things to watch for:

• Wording such as “Motion Picture Purposes”
• Bills that feel unusual or look slightly off
• Missing or incorrect security features
• Customers rushing the transaction or trying to distract employees

If you believe someone is attempting to pass fake money, do not put yourself in danger. Try to keep the bill if it is safe to do so, gather any available suspect or vehicle information, and contact law enforcement.
