Today our Bay City Bomberos participated in a first responder softball charity tournament in Bergen County run by the New Jersey League of Law Enforcement. The team took second place, losing to Jersey City Fire Department in the finals.

On 5/28/26 at 1315 hours, the PAFD was dispatched to the 400 block of Sayre Ave for a reported fire. As units pulled out of the bays, smoke was seen coming from a house within a block of fire headquarters. Arriving within a minute, crews were able to quickly stretch two hoselines to contain and extinguish the fire which had extended to the first and second floors. Searches were conducted while extensive overhaul was completed. The fire appears to have originated in the back of the home where an E-Mobility device was found. Middlesex County Hazmat responded to the scene to safely overpack the damaged Lithium-Ion batteries. There were no injuries and the residents were assisted by City Relocation Officers. City units on scene were E-1, E-2, E-3, T-2, R-1, C-1, C-2, C-4 & C-5. E-4 covered the city during the incident.

The updated location for today’s Memorial Day service is at the American Legion.

Due to inclement weather, the Memorial Day Ceremony will now take place indoors at the American Legion.

Join us on Monday, May 25 at 11:00 AM as we come together to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Refreshments will follow the program.

Great job to our County Hazmat for their tireless work, especially the past few months with getting all the fire department decontamination teams trained to be able to support operations. For our residents, we call the “Blue Trucks” in when there is an incident involving hazardous materials that is beyond our operational capabilities.

Thank you to the family of former Volunteer Captain Joseph P. Smith Jr. for mailing us his historic fire department memorabilia. He passed away back in 2011 and was a member of Eagle Engine Company # 4. All these items will be added to our fire museum. We are always willing to bring back pieces of our 145 year history to the museum if you ever find any.

After several months of production, both of our new 2026 Pierce Arrow XT 2000/750 engines are complete. Looking forward to getting these apparatus to New Jersey where the equipment will be mounted, hose added and training conducted prior to being placed in service to serve the city. This purchase was part of the capital improvement plan with additional funding from ARPA funds and a $500,000 contribution by E-Port Phase II. Thank you to the City for continuing to provide for the equipment and apparatus needed to do our jobs safely.
