To celebrate “Police Week”, the base cops invited the fire department and other agencies on Grissom to a golf tournament at Rock Hollow golf course in Peru.

Four firefighters representing Grissom Fire formed a team and competed against 6 others for 18 holes…bringing home the trophy for FIRST PLACE!

One might ask-where did the cops rank in this tournament?

5/9/2026 at 0123hrs, Grissom Fire was dispatched to US-31@1150 S, mutual aid with Galveston Volunteer Fire Department for a reported 10-50, vehicle hitting a tree.
Grissom Ch-2 and Engine-8 responded, arriving on scene with Parkview Health and Miami County Sheriff's Office - IN, and followed up with GVFD.
The vehicle was occupied by one person, and with the serious damage to the vehicle, extensive extrication work was required by Galveston and Grissom crews to remove the patient.
Patient care was transferred to EMS, and the scene turned over to MCSD for investigation.
Grissom Fire was released from the scene around 0240hrs, and returned to service.

👨‍🚒 PROMOTION ANNOUNCEMENT 👨‍🚒

Grissom Fire Department proudly announces the recent promotion of Firefighter Dan Cook, to the position of Fire Inspector.

The responsibilities of this position include building inspections, creating and updating pre-fire plans, and fire prevention duties.

Starting in the fire service in 1999, Inspector Cook served in the Air Force as a firefighter, followed by getting hired on at Grissom Fire in 2003. Inspector Cook has worked through his career to gain IFSAC certifications of Fire Instructor 1, Officer 1 and Inspector 2.

Congratulations Inspector Cook on the promotion.

Austin Honey has recently been (re)hired to Grissom Fire Department as a Gs-7 Firefighter.

From Lizton Indiana, Firefighter Honey
graduated from Tri-West High School in 2011 and enlisted in the Air Force shortly after, serving 6 years.

Firefighter Honey was initially hired on at Grissom Fire in 2020, but decided to leave in 2023 to spend more time with family, as him and his wife welcomed a baby in to their growing family.

Welcome (back) Firefighter Honey to Grissom Fire.

👨‍🚒 PROMOTION ANNOUNCEMENT 👨‍🚒

Grissom Fire Department proudly announces the recent promotion of Station Chief Chad Green, to the position of Assistant Chief of Operations.

The responsibilities of this position include (but not limited too) managing the day-to-day operations of the shift personnel, as well as being the Incident Command on emergencies on the base, and part of the unified command when Grissom Fire responds to our neighbors for mutual aid.

Congratulations Assistant Chief Green on the promotion.

While responding to a crash of an A-37 DragonFly fighter-bomber about 5 miles southwest of Grissom, one of Grissom fire departments fire trucks failed to negotiate an “s-turn” at the intersection of 700S and 1000E, resulting in the injury of 4 firefighters-one seriously.

👨‍🚒Welcome to Grissom Fire Department👨‍🚒

Jesus Quintanilla has recently been hired to Grissom Fire Department as a Gs-7 Firefighter.

From Lafayette Indiana, Firefighter Quintanilla
graduated from Jefferson High School in May 2023 and enlisted in the Air Force the following month, where after BMT at Lackland AFB, he
was sent to and graduated from the Louis F Garland Fire Academy at Goodfellow AFB in April of 2024

Over the last two years and prior to becoming a firefighter, Quintanilla’s passion for serving others began as he worked as a CNA, where he continues that work on his off days.

As an Air Force Reserve firefighter, Quintanilla has had the opportunity to go to Honduras and Japan, as well as orders to help with manning and receive training here at Grissom FD..

Goals for his future, Quintanilla states “In 20 years I hope to still be chasing calls at the fire department, and to one day reach the rank of Captain.”

Firefighter Quintanilla is the first to sport the orange probationary helmet front, as he works to complete a list of tasks during his first year here.

4/13/2026 at 644AM Grissom Fire Department responded mutual aid with Pipe Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, Miami County Indiana and Parkview Health, for a reported vehicle accident involving a pickup truck and a semi on US-31 northbound at 850 S.
Grissom Chief-2, Unit-9 and Engine-8 responded, arriving on scene to find a red Dodge Ram truck with heavy front end damage, and a semi truck that was blocking traffic.
The two patients in the truck were extricated from the heavy wreckage, where care was provided by EMS, until two helicopters arrived to transport both patients.
Grissom Fire was released from the scene at about 800AM and returned to service.

Some of Chief Lays responsibilities include creating, updating and maintaining Pre-Fire plans of all the buildings on the installation, Inspections, as well supervising the members that are in the Fire Department Dispatch Center.
