WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT ALONE!!!

Grissom Air and Space Expo 2026 was a huge event. From Friday through Sunday around 30,000 people processed through security and attended the show. That attendance number doesn’t include:
-members of the base
-workers of the event
-vendors
-the multitude of people who stayed in the parking lots
-the people who watched from other areas surrounding the base.

With that large amount of people comes challenges that leadership of Grissom Fire Department worked hard to prepare for.

With the help of our mutual aid neighbors and EMS agencies, over 140 medical events were handled ranging from an allergic reaction to a bee sting, to CPR being done on a cardiac patient and getting them flown out, and a multitude of heat related issues.
Along with being prepared for medical emergencies, we also staged and staffed fire trucks on the flight line area to deal with any potential aircraft incidents, as well as in the areas surrounding the base.

We are incredibly grateful to all the personnel from
Pipe Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, Miami County Indiana, City of Peru Fire Department, Walton Community Fire Department, Lutheran EMS and Parkview Health that spent your weekend helping keep all the people who came to watch the air show, safe. While the Air Force Thunderbirds were the main attraction-all of you were the stars of the show!

Over the past three days, the Peru Fire Department had the opportunity to provide coverage for the 2026 Air Show at Grissom Air Force Base. Our crews staffed a ladder truck and two UTVs throughout the event, helping provide fire and emergency response coverage for the thousands of spectators in attendance.

The turnout for this year’s air show was incredible, and we were proud to work alongside numerous fire departments and EMS crews from across the area.

A special thank-you goes to Grissom Fire Department for making our crews feel right at home and allowing us to use their station as our base of operations throughout the event. We truly appreciate their hospitality and partnership.

We’re thankful for the great weather, the incredible turnout, and all of the first responders who worked together to help make the 2026 Air Show a safe and successful event.

Due to an overwhelming interest from everyone in playing in our outing, we have had to cap team entries. We are completly FULL and are not able to accept any more teams for our outing on Sunday 8/16 at Peru Municipal Golf Course. While this is a great thing for the outing and our mission to raise money for scholarships, we understand that some people are disappointed they couldn't play this year. We appreciate the support and hope anyone who missed out this year will try to get in early next year!

We were excited to get out this morning and be able to take on this project! A lot of teamwork went into this and gave us a great opportunity to train!

Early this morning, the Peru Fire Department provided mutual aid to the Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department in response to a confirmed structure fire, dispatching resources including Command 2, Engine 1, Tanker 10, and Ladder 1 to support firefighting operations. Following several hours of firefighting efforts, the fire was successfully extinguished after spreading to multiple structures, demonstrating the importance of effective teamwork among all personnel on the fire ground.

Thank you to Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Grissom Fire Department, and Galveston Volunteer Fire Department for the great teamwork.

Another year down! The Peru Fire Department was honored to host the 22nd annual Firecracker 5k! This even is put on every July 4th by the Miami County YMCA at station 1 on canal street. We are glad to help out and thank you to everyone who participated. Can’t wait to see everyone next year.

We hope everyone has a safe and blessed holiday on America’s 250th birthday! If you’re lighting off fireworks this evening, be sure to throw it or be fast 😉🚒
