The Oglesby Fire Department / MABAS Division 25 hosted continued Operation Exercises this week, bringing together members from IL-Water Rescue 1, IL-Task Force 1 Swiftwater Teams, and MABAS Divisions 14, 15, and 25 for rescue evolutions on the Vermilion River.

This exercise also marked the first opportunity for IVRD dispatch personnel to operate from the new LaSalle County Command Bus during a large-scale training event. TC Sienkiewicz and TC Simpson represented IVRD while working alongside command staff and responders throughout the exercise.

Both Telecommunicators are specially trained in scene operations through IL-TERT, allowing them to support communications and incident coordination during large-scale emergencies and extended operations. Opportunities like these strengthen coordination between dispatchers and field responders while enhancing regional preparedness and interoperability.

We appreciate the opportunity to train alongside our regional partners! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš“๐Ÿš‘๐ŸŒŠ

๐Ÿ“ A great day of learning at Starved Rock State Park!

Director Miller and TC Brockman had the opportunity to attend rope rescue training alongside members of MABAS Division 25 Technical Rescue Team, including crews from Utica Fire Protection District and Oglesby Fire Department.

While dispatchers donโ€™t operate on the end of the rope, being present at trainings like this provides valuable on-scene perspective. Understanding the complexity, terminology, and coordination involved in technical rescues helps us better support responders when seconds matter.

๐ŸŽ“ Trainings like this are also an important part of dispatcher continuing education and maintaining their certificationโ€”ensuring our team stays sharp, informed, and ready.

๐ŸŽง Dispatchers who train alongside responders are better prepared to manage the chaos behind the scenesโ€”and that ultimately leads to stronger, safer outcomes for everyone.
