Congratulations to the 2026 Washington State Book Award Finalists - we are so proud of these Washington authors and illustrators!

The Washington Center for the Book (an affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book administered by Washington State Library) has selected 41 finalists in seven categories for the 2026 Washington State Book Awards (WSBA) for outstanding books published by Washington authors in 2025. This is the 60th year of the program, formerly called the Governor's Writers Awards.

This year’s list is crammed with writers from big and small cities and towns across Washington state. From Vashon to Vancouver and Spokane to San Juan Island, the list of 2026 award finalists is packed with talented creators sharing their skills, passion, and creativity with readers across our region and the world. We are so proud to help shine a light on these excellent titles.

A winner in each category will be announced on Sept. 15, 2026.

We're so grateful to Mariela for fixing our library dog, George! He lost his nose earlier this year and Mariela generously offered to take him home and repair him. A big thank you to Mariela for taking such great care of him!
