On Tuesday, May 26, representatives of the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department traveled to Taylorsville to attend a grant awards ceremony at Southern Pines Electric’s headquarters. During the ceremony, the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department was proudly presented with a $10,000 grant award through the Southern Pines Electric Members Helping Members Grant Program administered by the Pinebelt Foundation.

These funds will go directly toward the purchase of rescue struts and airbags, specialized equipment used during emergency rescue situations such as motor vehicle collisions, structural collapses, vehicle stabilization incidents, and other technical rescue operations. This equipment plays a critical role in enhancing firefighter safety, improving patient stabilization, and allowing emergency personnel to safely and efficiently operate during complex rescue situations.

The Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department is extremely grateful to Southern Pines Electric and the Pinebelt Foundation for this generous grant award. This funding will go a tremendous way in helping us secure this much-needed equipment and continue our mission of providing the highest level of service possible to the citizens of our community.

Others in our community receiving grant funding were also in attendance including the North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department and the Forrest County Fire Service.

As always, we thank you for your continued support of the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department!

On Tuesday, May 26, several firefighters with the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department attended a Pipeline and CO2 Emergencies Training presented by ExxonMobil and hosted by the North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department.

This course served as a condensed version of recent pipeline emergency response training previously attended by other department personnel and focused on the proper operational procedures firefighters should follow in the event of a pipeline-related emergency.

Other participating departments included the North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department and the Moselle Volunteer Fire Department of Jones County.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department for hosting this valuable training opportunity and for the invitation to attend.

Training opportunities such as these are essential in ensuring our firefighters remain prepared to safely and effectively serve our community during all types of emergencies.

As always, thank you for your continued support of the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department!

Our area could receive an additional 2 to 3 inches of rainfall again today. Remember, if you encounter a flooded roadway turn around! Don’t drown!

Good Morning,

The NWS in Jackson has placed all of Forrest County in an Elevated Flash Flood Threat Today (2 out of 4). 2-3 inches of rain in less than a 3 hour time frame will be possible. This could lead to areas of flash flooding. Some roads may be flooded or closed and some structures could be inundated with water. We are also closely watching the Black Creek in Brooklyn. The current state is 22.2 feet and it should be cresting around 22.5. This will lead to minor flooding in the Camp Dantzler community.

Sand and sand bags will be available at the following locations:

Forrest County EOC 4080 US Hwy 11 Hattiesburg
Hattiesburg Fire Station #1 610 N Main St Hattiesburg
Petal Fire Station #1 101 Fairchild Drive Petal
Forrest County Brooklyn Barn 2170 Carnes Rd Brooklyn.

We will continue to monitor the flood threat today and provide updates if necessary. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call.

Firefighters with the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department have had a busy last two days responding to multiple incidents across our response area and neighboring communities.

On Thursday, May 21, shortly before 5:00 p.m., firefighters with the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the area of U.S. Highway 11 near the intersection of Grayson Park for a reported two-vehicle motor vehicle collision with injuries and roadway blockage.

First arriving units reported both lanes partially blocked with minor injuries involved. AAA Ambulance Service responded to the scene and transported one female patient with minor injuries. Mississippi Highway Patrol arrived a short time later to investigate the collision. Firefighters remained on scene for nearly two hours assisting with traffic control and clearing the roadway. The North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department also provided assistance on this call.

Then, on Friday, May 22, shortly after 6:00 a.m., Macedonia firefighters responded to the area of Interstate 59 southbound near Exit 73 and Monroe Road to assist the North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department with a one-vehicle motor vehicle collision. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Units remained on scene until the arrival of the Mississippi Highway Patrol before returning to service.

Shortly after clearing that scene, at approximately 7:20 a.m., firefighters with the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the area of Otis Lee Road and Leeville Road for a reported structure fire at Leeville Baptist Church.

Firefighters arrived on scene and quickly made an aggressive attack to help minimize damage to the structure. Damage was primarily limited to the roof and foyer area of the church, with additional water damage reported throughout portions of the building.

Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Forrest County Fire Service, Petal Fire Department and Dixie Electric Power Association.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of any either May 22 incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

We would like to thank our firefighters, mutual aid partners, emergency responders, and the citizens we proudly serve for their continued support of the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department!

Last week, Assistant Chief Austin Extine, Captain Brendan Chatham and members from the North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department had the opportunity to attend the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) International in Indianapolis, Indiana.

FDIC is one of the largest fire service conferences in the world, bringing together firefighters, instructors, and industry leaders to share knowledge, experience, and advancements in the fire service. Throughout the week, they participated training demonstration sessions and explored the latest in fire service equipment and technology.

This experience provided a valuable opportunity to learn new skills, evaluate emerging tools and techniques, and connect with firefighters from departments across the country and around the world. The knowledge and insight gained will be brought back and shared with members of the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department to continue strengthening our training, safety, and response capabilities.

We are proud to invest in opportunities like this that allow our members to grow and better serve our community.

As always, we thank you for your continued support of the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department!

Several firefighters from the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department recently had the opportunity to attend a specialized Pipeline Emergencies and Industrial Firefighting training hosted by ExxonMobil at the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) in College Station, Texas, from April 17 through April 19.

This hands-on training provided valuable instruction in responding to pipeline incidents and industrial fires—situations that require a unique skill set and advanced knowledge. Given the infrastructure within and surrounding our response area, including pipelines and industrial facilities, this type of training is critical to ensuring our firefighters are prepared to respond safely and effectively to these high-risk incidents.

Opportunities like this allow our members to gain real-world experience, strengthen their technical abilities, and bring that knowledge back to better serve our community.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to ExxonMobil for providing this outstanding training opportunity and for their continued support of emergency responders.

The Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department looks forward to sending additional firefighters to this program in the future as we continue working to enhance our training, preparedness, and overall response capabilities.

As always, we thank you for your continued support of the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department!

Fire danger will be increasing across our area tomorrow. Please be mindful of any outdoor burning and call 911 immediately if a fire becomes out of control.

Conditions are drying out again following the recent light rainfall event. The combination of very low RH values and gusty winds will raise the threat for wildfires Tuesday.

This week, we recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, a time dedicated to honoring the men and women who serve as the critical link between our community and emergency services.

Every day, the dispatchers at the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office play an essential role in the success of our operations. From answering emergency calls to coordinating resources and providing vital information to responders, their calm professionalism and quick decision-making help ensure that help is delivered when it’s needed most. While they may not always be seen on scene, their impact is felt on every call we respond to.

Yesterday, Assistant Chief Austin Extine had the honor of presenting a small gift basket to these dedicated telecommunicators as a token of our appreciation. This gesture represents just a fraction of the gratitude we have for their hard work, commitment, and service to both our department and the community we proudly serve.

Please join us in thanking the dispatchers of the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office for everything they do not just this week, but every single day!
