This two year old post has a life time of knowledge in it. CHECK THE ICE BEFORE YOU GO OUT!

This week we will be providing some information on ice fishing. ALWAYS ASSUME THE ICE IS THIN. Remember,
• No ice is safe ice.
• If you don’t know ice thickness, don’t go on it.
• Leave a note of your whereabouts w/friends or family.
• Don’t test ice thickness alone.
• Use an ice auger to test ice thickness. At minimum, ice fishing needs 4 inches of ice; snowmobiling needs 5 inches of ice.
• Wear a life jacket/flotation coat.
• Carry ice hooks and rope gear.
• Don't go on ice after pets/animals. Contact local emergency personnel, who are equipped to make a rescue.
• Some water bodies look frozen, but can have thin ice in some areas.
• Flowing water, such as rivers and streams, should be avoided when covered by an ice layer.
• Water surrounded by sand may freeze w/ice thickness inconsistencies.
• Underground springs, wind, waterfowl and other animals can thin out ice.

A flat tire led to an unfortunate incident when a collapsed jack resulted in the victim’s foot pinned beneath their car. Thanks to PPD officers Hess and Deffendoll for freeing the victim prior to PFD arrival.

After the patient was treated and transported, first responders finished the original task of changing the tire.
