We would like to thank all of the agencies that assisted with the search operations today on Lawrenceburg Ferry Rd. This was a massive muti-agency and multi-county operation that resulted in a great outcome.

Thank you to all of the community members for the assistance in searching, bringing food and water, and those with UTVs.

It is a very humbling experience to see the community come together to help one another.

Sheriff Les K. Hill reports a successful search and rescue of a missing 1.5 year old child on Lawrenceburg Ferry Road. The child was found safely this afternoon and has since been reunited with family.

Thank you to all of the first responders, volunteers and community members that arrived to assist with the search efforts.

Chief Birkle was honored as a hometown hero at the Cincinnati Reds game last month. Congratulations Chief!

Fire Chief Bill Birkle. Bill served the Petersburg Fire Protection District from 1975 to 2025 before retiring. Few names are synonymous with the fire service as Birkle. In 1959 Bill’s father, Theodore Birkle Jr., served as a founding member and Chief. In 1968 Bill joined the US Navy and served until 1972. He returned to Petersburg to build a life with his wife, Ella. Bill's impact reached far beyond the borders of Petersburg. In 1985, he began a distinguished teaching career with Kentucky Tech (now KCTCS Fire Commission). Over nearly four decades of instruction, Bill mentored thousands of firefighters across the Commonwealth.
