REGION 8 PDC OFFERS THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS;

SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (SCSEP): trains income eligible persons age 55 and older to serve in various community agencies in order to prepare for unsubsidized employment. SCSEP assists with job search and placement (part-time/full-time) in the private sector. SCSEP operates in Berkeley, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Mineral, Morg

an, and Pendleton Counties of West Virginia. The FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM (FGP) offers placement of senior volunteers in schools, day care facilities, and/or head start centers to help tutoring/mentoring students with special needs. Foster Grandparents receive a stipend of $2.65 an hour with as much as a 20 hour work week, reimbursement for transportation, meals during service, annual physical examinations, and accident and liability insurance while on duty. FGP operates in Barbour, Berkeley, Doddridge, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Harrison, Jefferson, Mineral, Morgan, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Randolph and Taylor Counties of West Virginia

RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (RSVP) is open to people age 55 and over to volunteer in local community and faith-based organizations that are already helping to meet community needs. Volunteers are not paid but sponsoring organizations may reimburse them for some costs incurred during service. Volunteers receive appropriate volunteer insurance coverage and receive pre-service orientation and in-service training from the agency or organization where they are placed. RSVP operates in Berkeley, Morgan, and Jefferson Counties of West Virginia. The TRANSITIONAL HOUSING CENTER (THC) operating on the grounds of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia provides formerly homeless veterans with a supportive living environment while the veterans transition to independent living. Its residents are largely referred to the facility by the Veterans Administration.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Outreach Specialist:
The Region 8 Planning and Development Council, on behalf of the Upper Potomac Area Agency on Aging, are seeking a full-time social worker for the position of Medicare Outreach Specialist. A bachelor’s degree in the human services or health care field and current West Virginia social work license, is preferred for the position. However, five years of applicable experience may substitute for the degree. The Outreach Specialist will assist Medicare beneficiaries –both seniors aged 65+ and adults living with disabilities enroll in needed available Medicare benefits. Travel is required to coordinate outreach and enrollment activities. The Outreach Specialist serves a multi-county area, based out of Petersburg. DHHR to Host Public Hearing on Proposed Source Water Protection Plan
for the Hardy Co. PSD – Baker, Town of Moorefield, Mt. Top PSD and City of Petersburg Source Water Protection Plans (SWPPs)

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR), Bureau for Public Health’s Office of Environmental Health Services will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 to discuss draft Source Water Protection Plans (SWPPs) for the Hardy Co. PSD – Baker, Town of Moorefield, Mt. Top PSD and City of Petersburg.

The intent of a Source Water Protection Plan is to identify strategies to minimize potential threats to source water and prepare for spills or other emergencies that could affect water service. If approved, the Plan would be valid for three years.

The public hearing will be held on Wednesday, October 5 at 5:00 p.m., at the Region 8 Planning and Development Council offices, 8 Grant County Industrial Park, 131 Providence Lane, Petersburg, WV.

Public comments, which will be considered by DHHR during the review process, may be submitted during the October 5 hearing or in writing by October 19, 2016 via mail, fax or email. Written comments should include the name, address and telephone number of the writer and a concise statement of the nature of the issues being raised. Issues should be kept relevant to the draft plan.

Persons interested in submitting comments may do so by using one of the following means:
