Another busy patrol for USCGC PIKE, we conducted fire fighting drills, navigation drills, gunnery exercises, and casualty control drills...but we still made sure to take a moment and appreciate the gorgeous views of Southeast Alaska. We said goodbye and sent SN Grant off to YN "A" School, and we finished it up with BM2 Walmsley qualifying to Conn the ship as an Underway Officer of the Day. It's a huge milestone for any Boatswain Mate to attain this certification in their professional growth.

Today our very own Executive Petty Officer (XPO) BMC Kevin Chapman earned his certification for Multi-Mission Afloat Officer-In-Charge (OIC). This certification means he is eligible to be in command of a Coast Guard Cutter! What a great accomplishment!

What a weekend! The Norwegian Vikings came aboard our ship with crewmembers from CGC Pike and CGC Elderberry, creating shenanigans as a lifering disappeared from our ship. Look closely and you may find it hanging around!

Little Norway Festival did not disappoint as our crews participated in local events of strongman pulling contest, fish holding, shopping cart races, and softball competition.

The Search and Rescue demonstration was a crowd pleaser as the HH 60 Jayhawk helicopter dropped it's rescue swimmer to save "Oscar" the dummy.

We are so excited to be apart of this community and continue building these relationships.

This week we had the opportunity to recognize BM2 Walmsley on his advancement to Boatswain Mate Second Class. He is second generation Coast Guard and was pinned on by his father (prior BM) and partner. Congratulations on your achievement!

A big thank you to our volunteer force, Coast Guard Auxiliary, for everything that you do to help support us! This past week we had the pleasure of bringing aboard a Culinary Assistant from the CG Auxiliary Petersburg Flotilla to prepare and cook all of our meals throughout this underway week. We enjoyed the delicious meals and the added local knowledge of Southeast Alaska, and she got to enjoy her first underway trip on a Coast Guard Cutter. For anyone interested in volunteering with this organization, there are a lot of opportunities within your local Flotilla.

We've had a busy few weeks, primarily focused on training and drills as our crew prepared for a "Ready for Operations" inspection. This type of inspection is geared towards assessing the readiness of the ship, it's equipment, and the crew response to a variety of casualties. Our crew did amazing as usual, now back to operating in these vast waters!

We had a moment of down time, and were able to send a shore party after we anchored for the night. This trip marked the last time that FN Pantonial sailed with us as she heads off to Electrician's Mate "A" School to further her specialty training to further her career. Fair winds and following seas!
