The Bragg House is one of many Restored Historic Homes in Petersburg VA. This page is to highlight the Bragg House and provide the History of the Bragg Family that made this a prominent home in Petersburg, VA. (1809-1863), was born to Joseph Bragg, one of 7/children. William A Bragg Sr., purchased the High Street house and other parcels, in 1832, he paid $2000.00 at the age of 23. Doubtle
ss Joseph must have helped him purchase the house and to help fund the renovations that William put into the house to make it into the Greek Revival style. The site was plotted as early as 1762 by Peter Jones as a pat of "New Town Petersburg" making it a genuinely pre-revolutionary site. The family continued to be prominent in farming, milling, banking, land, and medicine throughout the first half of the nineteenth century. William SR's brother, John became a noted physician in Petersburg. He had a prominent home on Bragg's Hill at the end of Washington Street. Although the home is no longer standing, the off ramp of Interstate 95 to Washington Street is the location of Bragg's Hill. - Dr. Philip Ryan notes.
