Story Hour News!! - We are changing the time of morning story hour from 11am to 10:45am to help to accommodate our friends who have to rush out to eat before afternoon PreK and we are adding an afternoon story hour at 3:30 to help our friends who would still like a story hour but can't come during the school day. Come anytime you can!!

PPL is once again participating in the central and southern Illinois Library Crawl!! Pick up a passport at our library and visit one (or 100) of the many other great libraries in our area!! Get five stamps and return it to get your name entered into a drawing for a Petersburg Public Library tote bag!!

Do you feel it in the air today?!?!? It’s book sale time!! Come take some of these poor unwanted books off of our shelves and help us to stock up on new and exciting things to read all winter long!! Adult fiction is outside on the carts and adult non-fiction is inside. Hardcovers are $2 (or three for $5) softcovers are $1!!

Fun fact: Ever wonder how we choose which books have to leave the library? The general rule of thumb for most collections is if they haven’t been checked out in 5 years and are over 10 years past publication date it’s good library practice to remove them and make room!!

The library will be closed today 9/21 for Harvest Fest in Petersburg. We hope everyone gets out and enjoys the festivities. Our book return box is always open and our digital collection is always available on our Cloud Library, Libby, & Hoopla apps!! (PS feel free to park at the library today if you can find a spot)

Our library book club is kicking off our fall selections with ( 🎶 sing it with me 🎶) “days of the week” themed books!! If you aren’t a part of our book club already, you can join at any time. Library staff choose themed books for all ages every month and order them according to your age/reading level and preferences (fiction, nonfiction, graphics, picture etc). The books come in and you get notified and you come and get them at your leisure. It’s a no pressure, no fuss book club trying to help busy people and families and maybe introduce you to a new author or topic you might enjoy!! Email, call, or come in to sign up!!

The Petersburg Public Library was awarded a Project Next Generation Grant for after school programming for the 3rd year in a row!! We will again be offering programs for PORTA Central and Junior High Students!! This grant brings $26,000 in state funding back to our community!! We have people ask all the time if there are local book clubs to join!! Well, here you go Menard County Wildflower & Rose Bookstore is hosting one and we have the book in stock at the library and the audio version instantly available on our Hoopla app!! If you are a more low key reader we also offer a monthly book club through the library that never meets (let’s call it the book club for introverts or really busy people😁). Who is ready for a dreamy book club at Three Pines Petersburg?! Coming this OCTOBER, we are starting our monthly mansion book club!

It was great to partner with Wildflower & Rose Bookstore last weekend to offer our first ever “Library Lock-In”. Fourteen lucky kiddos were registered by their parents to spend 2 hours “after hours” at the library during the book fair on the square. We took donations from parents for this event and received 10% of the proceeds from the book fair. We are so lucky to have so many book lovers and supporters!! Many thanks to all of those who made this possible!!

Public Libraries are an integral part of all communities. They are more than books and their role is incredibly important for so many. We are grateful for Petersburg Public Library and their dedication to serving our lovely town!

Because of your support and your shopping at the Book Fair, we were able to gift the Library 10% of our profits. We also had one vendor that donated 10% of their sales as well - thank you to The Curator! In total, we donated $150.

We are looking forward to future collaborations with the Library and continuing to further the love of reading for all ages! Don't forget to thank a Librarian today! 📚📚📚
