Petersburg Public Library is partnering with Springfield’s Kidzeum of Health and Science to host a Learning Lab at the library on Saturday, November 7, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. This is a free, drop-in program with no registration needed for kids ages 16 months to 3 years and their grown-ups. The Learning Lab will be led by Kidzeum Infant-Toddler Specialist Amethyst Hamm, who will set up stations for toddlers to explore and do hands-on science at their own pace. Stations will include: Big Body Moves with Tunnels & Mats, Heartbeat Checks, Breathing Play with Bubbles & Feathers, and Build-a-Body Potato Head. Plus, a calm corner for kids to use to settle and then rejoin playing at any time. Petersburg Public Library offers programing free to our community, no library card necessary.

Petersburg Public Library and Illinois Libraries Present will host Preserving History with Geoffrey Baer on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. as a virtual conversation via Zoom. https://bit.ly/LPS6GeoffreyBaerRegistration
This special program invites audiences to tag along with Geoffrey Baer, a beloved Chicago historian, storyteller, and host of numerous PBS programs exploring the architecture, history, and hidden stories of Chicago and its surrounding region. Baer is known for bringing local history to life, helping audiences connect deeply with the people, places, and communities that shape the city’s identity

Shermann “Dilla” Thomas, an Emmy Award‑winning Chicago historian, cultural worker, and social media educator, will moderate the conversation. Dilla is recognized for making Chicago history accessible and engaging, with over 40 million views across her social media platforms.

It starts today!!! Grab a passport from the library and take this month to discover the amazing library resources in our area and beyond!! You can use your Petersburg library card at the other IHLS libraries in our area, checking out books at all of these locations with your Petersburg card and returning them to any of the locations as well!! We are all part of the same system!! Athens, Sherman, Williamsville, Mason City, Chatham, & Rochester are the closest, but your limit is only in how far you want to drive!!!

Summer Library Pet brag!! Hare-iette the Spy and Nancy Drew went to show this week and came home with some ribbons 🥇 🐰 Many thanks to Wendy Beckerman for loaning them to us all summer, thanks to David Reiser for their weekend care, and to all of our summer library kids who showed them such LOVE ❤️

Erma the tortoise was at the library for story hour today and wants you to know that:
1. The library is nice and cool and is open to anyone who wants to come in and get cooled off. We are open Thursday evening until 8 pm and will be open Friday, July 3 from 10am-5pm.
2. We will be closed Saturday, July 4th for the holiday.
