Road closure planned for State Road 56/61 in Pike County

PIKE COUNTY IN – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure for State Road 56/61 in Pike County.

Beginning on or around Monday, June 1, crews will close S.R. 56/61 in Petersburg. This closure will occur from the intersection of State Road 57 to Illinois Street.

This road closure will allow for a pavement patching project. This project is expected to take two weeks to complete, depending on the weather.

The official detour for this project is State Road 57 to State Road 356 to State Road 257 to State Road 56. Local traffic will have access during this project. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones.

4/30/26- State Road 257 between Otwell and Washington is closed due to flooding. INDOT has barriers and road closed signs. Plan your trip accordingly and DO NOT drive around the barriers.

National Weather Service estimates the incoming storms tonight to be around 10 p.m. -2 a.m. The SPC continues the Enhanced Risk (Level 3/5) for our are. This means a considerable severe weather event is possible today and tonight.
Scattered thunderstorms are possible this afternoon but the main event will come this evening into tonight. Supercells out west in the Moderate Risk will move east towards our area and most likely congeal into a line or lines. This line when it gets to our area will be capable of damaging wind gusts, tornadoes (up to EF-2), and large hail.
As always, we will continue to monitor this throughout the day and provide updates as needed. Please make safety preparations now and have a safe place to go tonight if/when severe weather arrives.

A major outbreak of severe storms is possible late Monday afternoon and Monday evening. Strong tornadoes and widespread damaging winds will be the primary concerns, but large hail will be possible over portions of southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.
